I’ve always thought Marvel needed to give Hulk another proper movie. Now, according to Mark Ruffalo, that’s finally happening—and it’ll arrive before Avengers: Secret Wars.
Honestly, it’s about time.
What we know about World War Hulk

@Marvel Studios
In a recent interview (via a post on Facebook), Mark Ruffalo (56) confirmed Marvel is actively working on a new Hulk project, and I’m thinking it could very well be a World War Hulk film. Mark’s exact words were:
We are working on several projects but there will be one that people have been asking for, no doubt when I read the script, I couldn’t contain the excitement.
That sounds pretty promising, if you ask me.
Battleworld and multiple Hulks
The new movie will reportedly focus on Battleworld, a planet central to Marvel’s comic arcs involving different realities. Master Hulk (Ruffalo’s Hulk, presumably) will apparently rule a specific territory on this chaotic world.
But what’s even cooler is the rumour we’ll see hundreds of Hulk variants. Given Marvel’s recent obsession with multiverses, this tracks perfectly.
The return of iconic Hulks

@Marvel Studios
Fans will be excited to hear some familiar names might be returning. Edward Norton (54), Eric Bana (55), and even Lou Ferrigno (72) are rumoured to reprise their Hulk roles.
To me, that sounds amazing. I’m particularly intrigued about seeing Norton return since his exit from the MCU wasn’t exactly smooth.
Hugh Jackman and Henry Cavill as Wolverines?

@Marvel Studios
Another massive rumour is that Hugh Jackman (55) and Henry Cavill (40) will appear as Wolverine variants. Hugh’s return makes sense after Deadpool & Wolverine, but Henry’s involvement is a bit more surprising.
I mean, Henry did pop up briefly as Wolverine in the 2024 film, but a full MCU appearance would still feel like a massive deal.
Is Henry Cavill really involved?

@Marvel Studios
Let’s slow down a bit, though. While fans are already buzzing about Henry returning as Wolverine, there’s no official confirmation yet.
A Facebook post initially sparked this rumour, but Marvel hasn’t confirmed any casting. Henry himself hasn’t confirmed anything, either.
Still, fans have connected the dots after Henry’s cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine. Personally, I’d love it, but I’m keeping my expectations realistic.
Could Henry Cavill return as a different character?

@Marvel Studios
Interestingly, Henry once mentioned he’d love to play Captain Britain instead. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Henry said:
I have the internet and I have seen the various rumours about Captain Britain and that would be loads of fun to do a cool, modernised version of that.
I could see that happening too, especially since he’s openly keen on playing another Marvel character.
Why Marvel needs this film

Marvel fans have wanted another Hulk film since forever. Honestly, it’s strange how little Hulk has been utilised given how popular Mark Ruffalo’s portrayal is.
Hulk hasn’t had a solo film since The Incredible Hulk in 2008, which starred Edward Norton. Mark has always been a supporting character, and frankly, it’s about time he took the spotlight.
Potential storyline directions

@Marvel Studios
If the movie follows the comics, World War Hulk could revolve around Hulk’s revenge against Earth after being exiled. That’s dark for Marvel standards, but I’d personally love to see the MCU embrace something a bit grittier.
Given the multiversal angle, we might see multiple Hulks fighting each other, which sounds genuinely epic. Imagine Hulk vs Hulk battles—I mean, who wouldn’t pay to watch that?
Why release it before Secret Wars?

@Marvel Studios
Releasing World War Hulk before Avengers: Secret Wars suggests it could significantly impact the MCU’s ongoing narrative. Secret Wars will likely serve as a climax to the multiverse saga, meaning this Hulk film could set up key plot points.
It’s a smart move by Marvel. The anticipation for Secret Wars is already sky-high, and placing a major Hulk event just before it ensures audiences stay invested.
I’m a bit concerned about whether Marvel will give Norton, Bana, and Ferrigno substantial roles or just quick cameos. I’d hate to see these actors underutilised, especially given their historical significance.

@Marvel Studios
If Marvel’s smart (and they usually are), they’ll make these appearances meaningful rather than fan-service cameos.
Social media has predictably exploded since Mark’s comments went viral. Fans are particularly excited about multiple Hulk variants and potential Wolverine appearances.
But there’s some caution too, given Marvel’s mixed track record with handling multiverse cameos. Personally, I think caution is healthy, but I can’t deny I’m excited.
Marvel’s silence

@Marvel Studios
Marvel hasn’t officially confirmed any of this yet, which is pretty standard for them. Marvel tends to stay silent until they’re ready for a major announcement, usually at Comic-Con or their D23 Expo.
Until then, we’ll have to speculate—and speculate we will.
Possible release date

@Marvel Studios
While we know it will be out before Secret Wars, Marvel hasn’t given a specific date yet. Given Secret Wars is set for May 2027, I reckon we’ll see World War Hulk sometime in late 2025 or early 2026.
A 2026 release feels most likely, giving Marvel enough time to build hype and weave it seamlessly into their ongoing saga.
World War Hulk genuinely feels like a movie Marvel needs right now. It gives fans something they’ve wanted for ages, offers Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk a deserved spotlight, and sets up Secret Wars perfectly.
Sure, not everything is confirmed yet, and rumours are rampant, but I have a good feeling about this one. Hopefully, Marvel delivers something worthy of all this excitement.
Avengers: Secret Wars is currently slated to be released in cinemas on May 7th, 2027.
