Timothée Chalamet has revealed that the upcoming Wonka movie that he’s starring in will not be a dark origins story.
Chalamet revealed this during a recent interview with TIME.
Here’s what he had to say about his upcoming Wonka movie:
It’s not mining the darker emotions in life. It’s a celebration of being off-centre and of being okay with the weirder parts of you that don’t quite fit in.
He revealed this just after Chalamet posted a first look image of him as Wonka on this Instagram account.
I have to say that he looks great at Wonka. I would argue that he’s the perfect mix of Johnny Depp and Gene Wilder.

It was rumoured before Chalamet’s casting was officially announced that Warner Bros. Pictures was looking at two actors for the role of Wonka.
According to multiple reports, Warner Bros. was looking at both Chalamet and Tom Holland.
Honestly, I think that Warner Bros. Pictures opted for the better actor for the role.
I also like the fact that this upcoming Wonka movie will not be a dark and gritty prequel movie.
Given the tone of the first Willy Wonka movie – Will Wonka & The Chocolate Factory – it makes sense for this upcoming movie to be slightly lighter in tone.
