Whilst audiences in the UK can view Wonder Woman 1984 in cinemas from Wednesday 16th December, audiences will be small at least for the first week. However, when can UK audiences view the movie on streaming from the comfort of their own homes? It’s now been revealed that SKY TV might pick up Wonder Woman 1984’s home release in the UK, and it might not be released until January 2021.
With many cinemas closed in England due to the tier system, which we previously reported, and along with Welsh cinemas recently being ordered to close & Cineworld & Empire Cinemas closed until spring/early 2020, it has a very limited theatrical release.
However, rumours picked up across the weekend that satellite and on-demand streaming broadcaster SKY TV may pick this up. A fixture across Europe, and in many UK households, and with its NOW TV app that rivals Netflix, SKY TV has an incredible reach.

Suggestions are that SKY would have this available to all subscribers at an on-demand offer and probably around £11-14.99 per rental. While this is much shorter than the usual theatrical window, Variety reports this is a one-off, and not expected to set a precedent.
It actually becomes a way for Cinemas to show the film and generate a revenue stream elsewhere in light of the pandemic. This will come as welcome news to many fans currently unable to visit cinemas.
A move like this has been expected ever since the confirmation of its December 16th release was announced and we alluded to this back then. In the United States, the film is also being released a week later on December 25th and simultaneously shown in Cinemas and the streaming service HBO Max.
As stated, this was always an inevitably with so many theatres and cinemas across Europe prohibited from opening. Has this changed your mind on watching Wonder Woman 1984?

I’m in tier 4 in Kent so no chance of going to a cinema. I sure hope to see this out to rent so we can watch at home real soon.
