Wonder Woman 1984 is the next films coming out in the DCEU, and the Gal Gadot-led comic book movie could be about to change the future of these DC Comics and Warner Bros. Pictures movies.
The film is being directed by Parry Jenkins, who’s returning after having helmed the very successful first Wonder Woman movie.
The DCEU isn’t in the best state it could be at the moment after the likes of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad and Justice League.
These three films came out to very poor reviews, and in the case of Justice League, didn’t do as well as expected at the box office.
Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad did well enough, but they were both plagued by poor reviews from both critics and fans.
Since then we’ve seen the likes of Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Shazam! come out, and these three movies have been slightly better.
The standout there is Wonder Woman, which is a genuinely great comic book movie, and it’s starting to look like DC Films and Warner Bros. Pictures are really pinning all their hopes of Wonder Woman 1984.
Wonder Woman 1984 could rewrite DCEU history

So, could this film be even more important for the future of the DCEU than we first thought?
Could it literally be about to rewrite history? Possibly, and it all has to do with the return, or resurrection of Steve Trevor (played by Chris Pine).
We already know that Chris Pine is returning in this movie, and it seems as though Steve Trevor will come back to life somehow.
If you think back to Batman v Superman and Justice League, Diana Prince (a.k.a. Wonder Woman) revealed that she had left the world of men after Steve’s death.
So, if Steve were to come back in Wonder Woman 1984, could this change the future in the DCEU, meaning that the events of Batman v Superman and Justice League never happened?

It would be really interesting if they decided to go down this road. However, the recently leaked Wonder Woman 1984 plot details suggest otherwise.
Before you read any further, I will warn you that there are potential SPOILERS for Wonder Woman 1984 below.
According to these plot details which were leaked after a recent test screening, Steve Trevor will return thanks to Maxwell Lord’s (Pedro Pascal) magical stone which can grant wishes (yes, you read that correctly).
Anyway, it all ends up with Steve dying at the end of the movie (seriously, he dies again!).
This means that this second death could be the moment that Diana is referencing in Batman v Superman and Justice League.
