Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman have taken to Twitter to reveal how Wolverine – aka Logan – is alive in Deadpool 3, and their explanation makes an awful lot of sense, well, to me at least. You can check out their explanation in the video that Reynolds posted on Twitter below.
Quick explainer video that tackles…
1) Timeline questions
2) Logan canon
3) MCU FAQ
4) Whether we can do this all day or not pic.twitter.com/50lBsfYS5p— Ryan Reynolds (@VancityReynolds) September 28, 2022
So, they actually start the video out by revealing that they aren’t going to be changing what happened in the movie Logan, which still is one of my favourite comic book movies of all time. They actually revealed that Deadpool 3 will take place before the events of that movie, which makes a lot of sense to me. Logan took place in the year 2029.

Here’s what Ryan Reynolds had to say about how Logan is able to be in Deadpool 3:
Logan actually takes place in 2029. Totally separate thing. Logan died in Logan. Not touching that. What actually happens in our film is…
And this is when Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go by Wham! starts to play as Ryan and Hugh start to reveal what’s going to happen in the third Deadpool. You can see them making some pretty violent gestures and movements, so it seems as though Deadpool 3 is going to have its fair share of action set pieces. I actually think that Logan might kill Deadpool a few times in this movie.

Deadpool 3 is going to be directed by Shawn Levy. Both actors have worked with Levy in the past. Reynolds has actually made his last two movies with the director: Free Guy and Netflix’s The Adam Project. As for Jackman, he made Real Steel with Levy. So, it sounds as though they’re all pretty good friends and have been planning this for quite some time. I actually think that it was always part of the plan to have Jackman return as Logan in this third Deadpool film.
As for the film’s writers and its script, Marvel and Reynolds had initially hired Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin, known for the animated series Bob’s Burgers, to write the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie. However, it was later revealed that Marvel Studios had hired Shawn Levy to direct the movie and that the franchise’s original writers, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, were back on writing duties for the third Merc With A Mouth movie.
It’s going to be very interesting to see how this movie ends up turning out. It was also revealed that this film would be an R-rated movie. There was a lot of speculation that the upcoming movie would be toned down after Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox. However, Deadpool fans were delighted to hear that the Ryan Reynolds movie was going to be the first MCU movie to be R-rated. It seems as though Marvel and Disney are allowing Reynolds, Reese, Wernick and Levy to basically do whatever they wanted with this movie.
Deadpool 3 will be hitting cinemas on September 6th, 2024. Reynolds revealed the movie’s release date via a video he posted on Twitter yesterday.
