I have seen a lot of strange things in my time as a reporter, but I have never seen a witness start to drive and vape during a testimony, and that’s exactly what happened yesterday during the Johnny Depp and Amber Heard defamation trial.
The witness in question was Alejandro Romero and he was delivering his testimony via video link.
He was clearly on his phone and in his car during his testimony.
However, towards the end of his testimony, when he was being cross-examined by Amber Heard’s legal team, he began to vape and even started driving his car.
Alejandro Romero during his pre-recorded testimony
It was an incredibly odd moment and people in the court stated to laugh, naturally.
It turns out that this testimony was actually pre-recorded and was being shown to the people in the court.
Funnily enough, the people in court watching this video were told to maintain their composure whilst watching the pre-recorded testimony.

Honestly, this Johnny Depp Vs. Amber Heard defamation trial is the trial that just keeps on giving.
I used to report on court proceedings early on in my career as a journalist working in the UK.
I used to go to the Old Bailey, which is the central criminal court of the UK, and I’ve seen some strange and rather upsetting things.
However, I’ve never seen anything like this.
It’s just so strange and I’m surprised that the judge even allowed this witness testimony to be watched in court.
Johnny Depp’s defamation trial has been an interesting one
Perhaps Covid has changed things. Granted, I was covering court proceedings back in 2015, and the world’s changed a lot since then.
This all comes after Amber Heard’s legal team made a whole bunch of gafs such as objecting to their own question, getting brand names of supposed ‘key’ evidence wrong and another brand even called out the defence for misrepresenting one of their products in court.
It’s been a complete shambles and we still have a few weeks left of this nonsense.
