Winston Duke has revealed that he would love to play Batman in James Gunn’s DC Universe, and I think that this would be a terrific bit of casting. You might have seen Duke in the likes of Us and the Black Panther movies. He’s brilliant in everything he’s in. He’s also already played Batman. He was the voice of the Dark Knight in the recent podcast series, Batman Unburied, which is really worth listening to if you’re a fan of the iconic DC Comics superhero movie.
During an interview with SlashFilm, Duke was asked about playing Batman in live-action in James Gunn’s DC Universe. Here’s what he had to say on the matter:
Listen, man, can you start that [campaign]? [Laughs] I would say I challenge you to get on all these socials and push for me. Get your community. I would love to. I would love to do that as Batman. I’d love any opportunity to explore new characters, to change narratives around some of these entrenched ideas of how these characters are supposed to look, sound, and perform. I’m all for it.

Duke is currently starring in The Fall Guy alongside the likes of Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, and I would argue that he’s just as much a superstar as those two actors. I think that should Gunn opt to cast him in the role, it would be a really clever bit of casting, and I think that we really need to forget about the whole ‘black Batman’ thing and just think about who would be best suited to play the role.

We’re just going to have to wait and see who DC Studios ends up casting in the role, but I do believe that they should take a close look at Winston Duke. I’m actually sure they’re already thinking about him and that his name has come up in meetings about the future of Batman in the DC Universe.
