The Sandman has been a huge hit on Netflix, and fans are already asking when Season 2 will be released on the streaming platform. This is actually a really good question, and we’re going to try and work it out for you.
So, The Sandman has been Netflix’s most recent huge hit on the streaming platform. It’s been revealed that the show swept into Netflix’s Top 10 TV shows straight in at number one.
The show ended up beating the likes of Stranger Things and Keep Breathing. Both of those shows have been performing very well with subscribers.
However, there’s something about The Sandman’s that’s really been getting people talking. I’ve noticed a lot of people online have been really loving the show and have been asking when the second season will be released on Netflix.
This is a really good question, and it’s one that we’re going to try and answer for you right here, right now. So, without any further ado, let’s talk about when The Sandman Season 2 will be released on Netflix.
The Sandman Season 2: Is it happening or not?

The first thing we have to clear up for you is whether The Sandman Season 2 is going to be happening or not. Well, we can confirm once and for all that The Sandman Season 2 is happening over at Netflix.
This was revealed to us not too long ago, and we were so happy to hear this news! It was revealed to us by a source close to Netflix that the streaming platform had already greenlit a second season of the new show, which is based on Neil Gaiman’s comic book series.
That said, Netflix still hasn’t released an official confirmation that season 2 is in the works. However, when we reached out to our sources close to the streamer, they revealed that The Sandman Season 2 has already been greenlit:
It’s happening. The writer’s room’s been set up and Netflix has given them the greenlight to start working on S2.
When could Season 2 be released on Netflix?

So, when could Season 2 be released on the streamer? That’s not a terribly easy question to answer. However, we might actually have one for you.
These Netflix shows tend to take roughly about 18 months to make from start to finish. It seems as though work on Season 2 of the show started at least a few weeks back (about 20 weeks back to be precise).
This was revealed by the show’s showrunner Allan Heinberg. During an interview with Rolling Stone, Heinberg said the following about Season 2:
Well, we had a writer’s room for 20 weeks to talk about Season Two and to break stories and generate outlines and first drafts. And now I’m having early talks with production design and VFX and getting everything into position, so that if we are lucky enough to have a Season Two, we’re ready to go, ideally with the same team who made Season One.
With this in mind, then I would predict that it’ll take at least another year until we get to see the second season of The Sandman on Netflix. So, this would mean that The Sandman Season 2 should be released in the summer or winter of 2023. I would go with a release window of September to December 2023.

As for what could happen in the second season, well, it seems as though showrunner, Allan Heinberg and his team have already been coming up with potential plotlines for it. Here’s what he had to say about Season 2’s story during his interview with Rolling Stone.
For the most part, though we are pulling a lot of the standalone stories out of there, not necessarily where they are in the comics, and folding them into the main saga. A good example is [the African myth-inspired comic-book story] Tales In the Sand, which happens very early at the beginning of The Doll’s House saga in the comics. And that would be part of our Season of Mists storyline in Season Two. When Dream has to go back to hell in order to free [his ancient love-interest] Nada, that seemed like a more organic place to tell their backstory and find out how they fell in love, and how Nada ended up in hell. So that’s a good example of a story that’s now woven into the main fabric of Season Two.

In a separate interview, The Sandman’s original writer, Neil Gaiman, revealed that we will get to see more of Gwendoline Christie’s Lucifer. Here’s what he had to say on the matter during his interview with Newsweek:
[W]e just carry on with this story [in Season 2]. That’s kind of marvelous that anybody who has seen Season 1… when we tell them that Season 2 [is] going to begin with the big Lucifer-Morpheus rematch they get very excited. Little do they know what’s going to happen and that they are simply not prepared for where it’s gonna go.
So, yes, we’re going to see more of Lucifer and Morpheus in Season 2 and their ongoing battle. That sounds like a lot of fun and I cannot wait to see it!
