It’s been revealed that there’s a very strong possibility that Wednesday Season 2 might not be coming to Netflix. However, don’t fret. This doesn’t mean that the show’s been cancelled. It’s actually quite an interesting story.
According to a report from The Independent, it’s looking like there might be something of a bidding war for Season 2 of the hit show between Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. This actually doesn’t come as a surprise to me.
Firstly, the first season of Wednesday beat Stranger Things’ record to become the Netflix series with the most viewing time in a single week for an English-language series. The series ended up accumulating more than 400 million hours in one week.
Those are incredible numbers. However, the numbers aren’t the only reason why Amazon Prime Video might be interested in bringing the show to their streaming platform.

The series is actually a Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) product. It was reported by Deadline last year that Amazon bought MGM for $8.5bn, which means that they actually own the rights to the series.
As it stands, Netflix is only ‘loaning’ the show. They did win the rights to stream the first season of the show after a huge bidding war for the new series.
All that said, Netflix subscribers can also rest easy because Amazon did state that, as it stands, they have no intentions of making any of the MGM content exclusive to Prime Video. They are looking to license the content out instead, which could actually end up being a more lucrative venture for the company in the long run.

As far as the show’s second season is concerned, we’ve already been informed that they are already hard at work on getting production underway. We were told that they are scouting filming locations and securing writers for the new season.
So, it looks like Wednesday Season 2 is definitely happening. The only question is whether it’ll come to Netflix or Prime Video. I’m sure that fans of the first season would rather want the second season to air on Netflix rather than Prime Video.
Some of the show’s fans might not have Prime Video subscriptions, for instance. We’re going to have to wait and see what ends up happening with Wednesday Season 2.
However, I’m pretty confident that the second season will end up being aired on Netflix and not Amazon Prime Video. Make sure to stick with Small Screen for any new updates on Wednesday Season 2.
