It’s been revealed to us that Wednesday Season 2 has been greenlit by Netflix, which means that we can all look forward to a second season. This news comes after it was revealed that the new Netflix series had broken Stranger Things Season 4’s streaming record, which is very impressive indeed.
The series, which marks Tim Burton’s debut in the world of television, has been hugely popular amongst Netflix subscribers, and it’s one of their biggest hits ever. I would argue that it’s the best new Netflix series to be released in 2022. There haven’t been too many of them. Most of Netflix’s new offerings in 2022 have been pretty bad. We’ve seen the likes of Resident Evil, First Kill, The Midnight Club and more end up being cancelled after their debut seasons.
Wednesday is Tim Burton’s best work in years

This is not a good trend for Netflix to have. They greenlight shows, spend basically no money on marketing them, and then they end up cancelling them after one season. Wednesday did have a bit of marketing and buzz behind it, mainly because it’s a new Addams Family series, and its first four episodes were directed by legendary filmmaker, Tim Burton.
So, when it was revealed that the show’s first season had been streamed for 341.2 million hours since it landed on the platform, I was not surprised. I watched the series in its entirety, and I genuinely believe that it’s one of the best things that Tim Burton has been involved in for quite some time.

We had been previously informed that things were looking good for a second season and that Jenna Ortega was all set to return for a Season 2. However, we weren’t able to get official confirmation that it’s happening. Well, we’ve now got that official confirmation we’ve been waiting for.
An inside source with very close ties to the project informed us that the second season received the greenlit over at Netflix, and they even hinted that a third season was already being discussed. Here’s what our source had to say on the matter:
Season 2 is happening. That’s a certainty now. It might be a few weeks before Netflix gives everyone the go-ahead to talk about it officially on social media. Talks about a third season are also ongoing.
That last bit of information was a little bonus for us because it’s the first time we’d ever heard anything about a third season. So, we might end up hearing news the news that the next two seasons have been greenlit via Netflix’s social media accounts and all the stars of the show. That would make everyone’s day!
Netflix has been in desperate need for a new hit show

So, it’s looking like Wednesday is the series that Netflix was waiting for. There was a huge bidding war between all the major streaming platforms and networks to get the rights to this new series. Netflix ended up winning, but it was a close run thing between the streaming giants and their main competitor, Prime Video, which reportedly came very close to getting the show for themselves.
Honestly, with the likes of Stranger Things and The Crown coming to an end, Netflix has been desperate for a new show to come along and get subscribers excited about what’s to come from the streaming platform. Bridgerton and Squid Game have helped, but they’ve needed another big show to help them out a bit.
