Warner Bros has just used a recent television spot for Shazam 2, which spoiled a huge Justice League superhero cameo. The latest commercial showed Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman appearing in the movie, confirming the rumours going around since last year.
Audiences from around the world who got a glimpse at the TV spot have come to the conclusion that WB may actually be desperate. Using this massive reveal for a television spot is just a clear indication that they just want a spike in ticket sales for the first week.
Online fans have shared their opinion, thinking that the movie’s best moments may have already been given out through the trailers and commercials. This makes people wonder what is left to see in the film. Some say the whole story is already in the commercials if one only knows how to put the pieces together. And a lot of fans do know how to piece DC stories together.
Now, Shazam Fury of the Gods director David F. Sandberg seems to express his frustration and dismay. It appears that the director is not made aware that the cameo will be used for a tv spot.

I’m happy if it convinces people to see the movie. But it’s of course less ideal for people who were going to see it anyway if they happen to see spoilers. https://t.co/tjHnb7C3rl

On his official Twitter account, Sandberg posted his sentiment, saying:
I’m happy if it convinces people to see the movie. But it’s of course less ideal for people who were going to see it anyway if they happen to see spoilers.
Without mentioning the cameo added to the commercial, fans immediately knew what he was pertaining to in the statement. One fan posted:
I understand their strategy of showing a surprise to get hype, but if they were going to do that they should have done it a long time ago
As a DC fan I’m sick of WBD’s marketing department
The point a lot are making is that if they intended to use it as part of the promotions, then WBD and DC Studios should have used it from the get-go. Doing this now is just an apparent desperate move. Either use Gal Gadot’s appearance in the first full official trailer or keep it top secret, then show it in tv spots after the first day of screening.
This reminds me of what Dwayne Johnson did when he welcomed Henry Cavill’s Superman before the premiere of Black Adam last year. They kept teasing, and it was as if they couldn’t even keep their own secrets that they told it anyway.
YouTube channel Emergency Awesome also points the Superman cameo out. However, they also offered the possible reason why Gadot’s Wonder Woman cameo was not removed in Shazam 2. The main reason is behind the brewing DC Universe that Co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran have.
Rumours about Wonder Woman appearing in Shazam 2 came around about the same time people were talking about Henry Cavill’s Superman having a cameo in The Flash. The Man of Steel’s cameo is now said to have been removed. Confirming that they are keeping Gadot’s Diana Prince in the DCEU, which is transitioning to the DCU means there is still a strong possibility they will have a place for Gadot in the future.

Personally, I still hope that Shazam 2 gets a good run at the worldwide box office. Sandberg’s first movie was a blockbuster hit with $364M at the global box office from an $85M budget. Whether this early reveal of the cameo of Wonder Woman would hurt or help in Shazam 2’s ticket sales is all up to time.
There are still many fans who are determined to see the movie despite the spoiler, and some even say that it indeed piqued their interest. Excelsior Forever! @Kryptomovies77 replied:
I planned on seeing it anyway. I’ve been looking forward to this movie since it was announced. Plus it comes out on my birthday. I don’t want anything spoiled, so I’m definitely gonna stay away from social media.
Zachary Levi stars as the eponymous character. Joining Levi in the cast are Grace Caroline Currey, Helen Mirren, Rachel Zegler, Lucy Liu, Adam Brody, Meagan Good, Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer, Marta Milans, Djimon Hounsou and many more.
