New reports are suggesting that Warner Bros. wants writer/director to helm the upcoming Green Lantern Corps movie.
The Green Lantern Corps movie has been in development for quite some time now, yet we haven’t heard much about it for a while. That is, until today. Initially, there had been reports suggesting that Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes director, Rupert Wyatt was going to helm the project, yet it sounds like he may no longer be involved. Thanks to That Hashtag Show a new name’s been thrown into the ring. According to them, Warner Bros. is trying to get Mission: Impossible – Fallout writer/director to helm the Green Lantern Corps movie.
McQuarrie’s been involved in quite a few action movies of late. He started off his career in Hollywood as a writer, having penned the scripts for The Usual Suspects, Valkyrie and Public Access. He wrote the scripts for Edge of Tomorrow (otherwise known as Live. Die. Repeat) and 2017’s The Mummy. However, he’s now making a name for himself as a director and as a regular collaborator with action movie star, Tom Cruise, helming films like Jack Reacher, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation and the upcoming Mission: Impossible – Fallout.
The new report suggests that the premise of the Green Lantern Corps movie hasn’t changed. “The current draft of the film would give us an older, experienced Hal Jordan who is already a Green Lantern Corps vet when he meets newcomer John Stewart. The studio is looking to cast an actor in the 39-50 age range,” they stated.
Of course, due to McQuarrie’s close working relationship with Cruise, many people have been suggesting that the movie star might be in line to play John Stewart. I think that could be interesting and would result in a pretty great action movie. I would like to see Nathan Fillion get a chance to play Stewart, but Cruise would be as good a choice as any and would certainly be a bigger box office draw.
