WandaVision episode four has been in high-demand for weeks now. We were warned that this episode would be a big turning point— the moment when everything starts picking up (or falling apart) — and trust me, Marvel did not disappoint.
As teased in the extended clip released by Disney, this week’s episode of WandaVision shifted the show’s perspective entirely. Rather than it being told as a sitcom focusing directly on Wanda and Vision, we were brought back to the present-day Marvel reality.

After a quick recap of episode 3, the episode opens with a voiceover from Captain Marvel to quickly jog everybody’s memory of the Rambeaus and their relationship with the super cool “one woman security force” Carol Danvers.
Then we are quickly transported to a hospital where Monica Rambeau — played by Teyonah Parris and previously known under the alias “Geraldine” — resurfaces back from ashes, presumably after Tony Stark’s reverse snap in Avengers: Endgame.
She wakes up in a panic and is frantically looking for her mother, Maria Rambeau. Monica finds a doctor (Dr. Harley, in case the name pops up later) and insists that she had only fallen asleep “for like twenty minutes.” The doctor then informs her of her mother’s death from cancer which happened three years ago— which is two years after Monica had “disappeared.”

Through all of this madness, patients are running around the hospital after being snapped back into reality and pieced together from dust. It is pure chaos in Marvel’s truest fashion. This episode of WandaVision progresses rapidly and brings us to the SWORD corporate office. Paling in comparison to the rest of the episode, not much from this scene stood out in importance but it may become relevant later in the series.
To gloss over it quickly: Monica arrived at the office, her badge was inactive and therefore didn’t work— likely because of her disappearing status. After being hounded by security, she bumped into Acting Director Taylor Hayward who guides her throughout the building. There’s a close-up shot of a frame of the Rambeau matriarch on the wall.
Monica and Hayward banter over the SWORD acronym and Hayward explains that they’ve shifted away from their initial focus and instead towards creating robotics, nanotechnology, and other “essential weapons.” Monica expresses her dismay and points out that they were supposed to stand for “observation and response,” not creation.
Hayward dismisses her comment and explains to Monica that she is currently “grounded” and will only be working on “terrestrial missions only” — this is credited to her mother’s oversight as Maria Rambeau was assured that those who were snapped away would eventually return.
This brings Monica to the town that Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) are currently occupying: The city of Westview, which happens to be in New Jersey— New York’s neighbouring state.

She meets up with Ant-Man’s FBI agent Jimmy Woo (Randall Park) and he introduces her to the sheriff of Eastview, an elderly man who quickly explains that Westview doesn’t exist. Jimmy tells Monica that he’s been trying to contact the residents of the town and their friends and family, but alas they are untraceable.
After being told by Jimmy that Westview doesn’t want him present— he says “nobody is supposed to go in”— Monica began to observe the static energy field that we saw her thrown out of in the previous episode. Stepping closer, Monica touches the field and is sucked into it— disappearing from present-day Marvel.
As episode four continues to play out, Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings) from Thor rides into the pop-up SWORD base outside of Westview. She asks her fellow passengers about their professions and after hearing that they are all in different fields she comes to the realisation that SWORD doesn’t know what they are dealing with— she calls them a “clown car” of people.
Darcy is still the same witty astrophysics that we’ve all grown to love. She gets the coolest entrance into the base. Someone calls her “Miss Lewis” and she quickly corrects them— “It’s Doctor Lewis.”

She gets set up at the control table adorned with multiple monitors and devices (the same one that we previewed at the end of the first episode). Darcy explains a bunch of technology stuff — something about CMB frequencies, sound and pictures— and as she says “voila” they are given a comfortable seat to WandaVision episode one.
The SWORD team watches Wanda and Vision act like their respective retro sitcom characters and Jimmy says, “You’re saying the universe created a sitcom with two Avengers?” All of this leads to the episode’s build-up: We get to see the previous two episodes, Wanda and Vision’s sitcom, play out through the eyes of the town.

Clearly, episode four of WandaVision was a wild ride! My predictions for the future episodes haven’t changed much — many of us are still certain that we will get a Pietro appearance soon. However, there is still the question of who is the anticipated “special guest” that the cast keeps teasing us about. Like many others, my bet is still Dr. Strange. It makes sense; they are messing with multi-verses which is totally his speed and Benedict Cumberbatch was one of the surprise guests at the WandaVision premiere event.
