It’s been revealed by DC Films’ acting head, Walter Hamada, that there are going to be two Batman franchises running at the same time. One of them will be Robert Pattinson’s, and the other will be a new Batman, not Ben Affleck. He revealed this information during a recent interview with The New York Times.
This New York Times article Hamada did recently has really got people talking, and not all of the talk out there is good. Some people have suggested that the article was a bit of a hit piece aimed at Zack Snyder. I’m not so sure about that myself.
What I believe that article to be, is a statement. Hamada was letting the world know via this article that he was going to be in charge of the DC movies moving forward. I mean, he is the acting head of DC Films, but I think this was his play for getting the job full time.
During this interview, Hamada revealed a bunch of interesting things. He said they were going to be releasing four DC Comics movies a year – two of which will be released straight to HBO Max. Hamada then dropped the bombshell that there will be two Batman franchises moving forward: Reeves and Pattinson’s Batman, and a new one, not played by Ben Affleck, but still in the DCEU.
Will there really be two Batman franchises at the same time?

Here’s what he said during the interview with The New York Times about there being two separate Batman franchises going at once:
I don’t think anyone else has ever attempted this, but audiences are sophisticated enough to understand it. If we make good movies, they will go with it.
This was after he revealed that there would be two Batman franchises running at the same time, which is a pretty bold move. I can’t help but think, however, that this is a mistep. The world doesn’t need two Batmen. It needs one good one, and now with all these rumours that Pattinson and Reeves aren’t getting along, I can’t help but wonder whether Hamada is worried about that Batman movie, and is already prepping someone to take over from R-Pats.
