There are a bunch of Dexter spinoffs seemingly in development over at Showtime, including one about the Trinity Killer! There’s a lot of movement over at Showtime regarding the Dexter franchise.
So, it was first announced that the main Dexter series was going to be coming to an end. Then fans of the show were really upset with the ending.
After that, Showtime then made Dexter: New Blood, which kind of “fixed” the series’ original ending. However, after just season, it was being reported that the new series might have been cancelled.
It seems as though those reports weren’t 100% accurate. I’m still not entirely sure whether New Blood has been cancelled or not, but what I know is that Showtime has started development on Dexter: Origins and a new spinoff series about the Trinity Killer.

So, according to Wall Street Journal’s report (via Fangoria):
The network has ordered an origin-story prequel to Dexter, a serial-killer drama that dates back to 2006. Showtime is also exploring separate spinoffs based on the back stories of compelling Dexter characters, including the Trinity Killer.
“The origin story will be set in Dexter’s hometown of Miami, and will touch on stories of real-life serial killers of the time period,” the site’s report continues.

So, this new ‘Origins’ series will dramatize young Dexter Morgan at the outset of his transition into the avenging serial killer he would become.
This new series will be set in the Miami, which was a hotbed of real serial killers of his time. The show will begin as Dexter graduates college to join Miami Metro, where he meets younger versions of many of the characters we came to know in the original show.
There’s not much information on what the Trinity Killer series will do, but I’m susppecting that they might do something similar and cast a younger actor in the role. This means that we probably won’t get to gett John Lithgow play the role again.
