Tobey Maguire Spotted In The UK Near Avengers: Doomsday Set

I’ve always said there’s no smoke without fire, especially when it comes to Marvel rumours. Today, that smoke is Tobey Maguire-shaped.

According to Cosmic Marvel (via The Supreme Cinefile on Instagram and Arun029 0n Threads), Tobey Maguire (48) has reportedly been spotted here in the UK, close to the filming locations of Avengers: Doomsday.

Could Tobey actually be returning?

I’m sceptical by nature, but honestly, seeing Tobey anywhere near a Marvel project instantly grabs my attention. He famously reprised his role as Spider-Man in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and fans have been begging for more ever since.

If Tobey is genuinely on board, Avengers: Doomsday might just become the most anticipated Marvel film since Endgame.

What’s the big deal with Avengers: Doomsday?

Well, Marvel’s latest blockbuster-in-waiting, Avengers: Doomsday, is set to start filming soon in the UK. The movie is already stacked with stars, featuring familiar faces from across the MCU.

Adding Tobey into this mix feels like Marvel is doubling down on nostalgia—and I’m absolutely here for it. There’s a huge appetite from fans to see past characters returning and interacting with newer heroes.

Why Tobey matters

@Sony Pictures

Tobey was the original cinematic Spider-Man. His run from 2002 to 2007 not only kicked off mainstream superhero fandom but made Spider-Man an iconic character for a whole generation.

At 48, Tobey returning to this role again could give us an intriguing, older Spider-Man storyline—something Marvel has only lightly explored.

I personally think seeing an experienced Peter Parker guiding younger heroes would be a fresh and exciting direction.

Is there any proof?

Officially, Marvel is keeping very quiet. Of course, Marvel never confirms anything until they’re ready, and even then, details are scarce.

But Marvel insiders and fans alike have spotted enough breadcrumbs to think there might be substance to this rumour.

The Cosmic Marvel post didn’t offer photographic evidence. So, take this with a pinch of salt—but I wouldn’t dismiss it outright.

Previous clues and leaks

AVENGERS DOOMSDAY FIRST LOOK: X-Men Return

This isn’t the first whisper about Tobey’s potential involvement. Earlier rumours surfaced online suggesting Marvel was keen to continue Tobey’s Spider-Man story following his warmly received return in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

And, let’s face it, Marvel loves revisiting characters if the fan demand is high enough—just look at Charlie Cox returning as Daredevil.

Marvel fans on social media have gone wild, naturally. Some believe Tobey might appear in a multiversal cameo similar to his appearance in No Way Home.

Others reckon this could be Marvel laying the groundwork for a Spider-Verse style crossover event in the MCU. And honestly, that makes a lot of sense.

Marvel’s multiverse obsession

Marvel’s recent phase has leaned heavily on multiverse storylines. From Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness to Loki, the MCU is clearly building towards something big.

Bringing Tobey back as Spider-Man would certainly align with Marvel’s current storytelling approach.

Potential impact on Avengers: Doomsday

Let’s be clear: Avengers: Doomsday doesn’t need Tobey Maguire to be a hit. But, his involvement would undeniably elevate the film’s appeal, drawing in older fans who have nostalgia for Tobey’s original trilogy.

I think Marvel knows exactly what they’re doing here, and if Tobey is indeed involved, expect a massive wave of excitement.

What we know about Avengers: Doomsday

Avengers: Doomsday is reportedly set to wrap up some major MCU arcs and set the stage for future projects. Marvel hasn’t confirmed much, but it’s widely expected to deal heavily with Doctor Doom (to be played by Robert Downey Jr.).

If Tobey is indeed involved, it’s likely his Spider-Man could play a mentor role, possibly guiding younger heroes like Tom Holland’s Peter Parker or Miles Morales if he’s introduced.

Personally, I’d love to see him take on that mentor position, especially since his Peter Parker was always portrayed as thoughtful and reflective.

Who else will return?

Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Vanessa Kirby (Susan Storm), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), and Florence Pugh (Yelena) are some of the actors the studio has confirmed on a recent live stream revealing some of the movie’s incredible cast.

Other actors set to appear in Doomsday include Tenoch Huerta (Namor), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes), Letitia Wright (Black Panther), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Thing) and Kelsey Grammer (Beast).

The film also stars Lewis Pullman (Sentry), Danny Ramirez (Joaquín Torres / Falcon), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm), David Harbour (Red Guardian), Winston Duke (M’Baku), Hannah John-Kamen (Ghost), Tom Hiddleton (Loki), Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier / Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), James Marsden (Cyclops), and Channing Tatum (Gambit).

Pedro Pascal (Mister Fantastic) was also confirmed to join the MCU.

When will we know more?

Marvel is notoriously tight-lipped, especially with big reveals. If Tobey’s involvement is real, I suspect we’ll get official confirmation at a major event, perhaps Comic-Con or Marvel’s own D23 Expo.

Until then, we have these little crumbs and sightings to fuel our speculation.

While I love a good rumour as much as anyone, it’s important to keep expectations in check. Tobey being spotted near Avengers: Doomsday filming locations is exciting—but far from confirmation.

Still, I won’t deny how cool it would be to see him back on the big screen again, web-swinging his way alongside Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

Until we get official confirmation, we can only dream—and keep our eyes peeled for more sightings.

Avengers: Doomsday will be released in the UK on May 1st, 2026.
