The very first trailer for the upcoming Ahsoka series for Disney Plus has just been released, and it’s teasing the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn, which is a huge deal for many Star Wars fans. The character was first introduced in the Heir To The Empire books which were written by Timothy Zahn.
When Disney bought Lucasfilm, those books were no longer considered canon. However, Lucasfilm allowed Zahn to write a new trilogy of books involving the iconic Star Wars villain, Thrawn.
So, he went on to write three books: Thrawn (2017), Thrawn: Alliances (2018), and Thrawn: Treason. They were very interesting indeed, and it seems as though the Star Wars live-action universe is going to explore the character even more.
We were reintroduced to the villain in Dave Filoni’s animated series, Star Wars Rebels. He was a terrific villain, and the last we saw of him, he was stuck on a ship which was bound for the Unknown Regions in the Star Wars universe.

It seems like Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka Tanos is going to be looking for both Thrawn and Ezra Bridger in the upcoming Disney Plus series. This really has us excited to see the show, which promises to be a really good time!
There are some new and old characters teased in this new trailer, which was first shown at Star Wars Celebration, which is happening right now at the ExCel Centre in London. They also revealed that Dave Filoni is going to be directing his own Star Wars movie, and I have an inkling that this will be very much connected to this Ahsoka series.
So, as far as the series’ cast is concerned, we’ve already mentioned that Dawson will be playing the lead character in the show. Savannah Steyn will play a younger Ahsoka. Natasha Liu Bordizzo will be playing Sabine Wren. Eman Esfandi will be portraying Ezra Bridger.
It was also revealed that Mary Elizabeth Winstead will be playing Hera Syndulla, Ray Stevenson will be in the series as a new character called Baylan, and David Tennant will be the voice of a character called Huyang: a lightsaber crafting droid that was used by the Jedi during the Clone Wars. Tennant is reprising his role from the animated series The Clone Wars (2012).

It’s also been reported that Hayden Christensen will be returning in the show as Anakin Skywalker. Genevieve O’Reilly and Diana Lee Inosanto also reprise their roles as Mon Mothma and Morgan Elsbeth, respectively, from previous Star Wars media. Ivanna Sakhno has been cast in an undisclosed role.
The characters Chopper and Grand Admiral Thrawn are set to appear in the series. We actually revealed that Lucasfilm had managed to secure the services of Lars Mikkelsen to play Thrawn in the series. However, that has still not been officially confirmed by Lucasfilm as of writing this article.
This new trailer also confirmed that the Ahsoka series would be streaming on Disney Plus in August of this year! I cannot wait to watch this show.
