The White Lotus Season 2 might have been the best TV show to come out in 2022, and it’s been revealed that two surprising characters from the first season were going to be brought into the second season, but they ended up being cut.
The second season has come to an end, and naturally, people are excited about the third season of the HBO Max show. The show, which is written and directed and created by Mike White, has been hugely popular.
It was the show that got Jennifer Coolidge her Emmy! Everybody should love the show for that reason alone. Turns out, there were going to be two characters from the first season that were cut from Season 2!
The thing is, I don’t really get why Mike White wanted to bring them back in the first place.

This news comes to us via The Hollywood Reporter (via Screen Rant). The outlet did an interview with some of the stars of the first season of The White Lotus, Lukas Gage. Gage revealed that his character Dillon, a staffer at the White Lotus, and Fred Hechinger’s Quinn Mossbacher, a teenager vacationing with his family, almost returned for season 2.
Gage revealed that he and Fred filmed a scene in which their two characters appeared to Tanya (played by Jennifer Coolidge) during a drug-induced dream sequence. The actor revealed that the scene “got cut because it didn’t work with the show.”
Here’s what Gage had t to say on the matter:
Fred [Hechinger] and I did a scene for season two. When Jennifer [Coolidge’s character] is with the gays in Palermo, she originally opens a door in the villa and sees a shot of me doing drugs that turns out to be an illusion. It got cut because it didn’t work with the show, but I didn’t care because I got a free trip to the Four Seasons. And now for season three, I’m literally writing Mike [White] every day like, hey, remember me!

I’m going to be honest here, I’m not sure why White wrote and filmed a scene in which Dillon and Quinn appeared to Tanya in a dream sequence. The three characters barely interacted in the first season, so I’m not sure why Mike wanted to bring them back in the dream sequence.
I wonder whether he realised that the scene didn’t quite work, and that’s why he opted to cut it. However, with The White Lotus Season 3 on the way, Gage says he has remained in contact with the show’s creator and is constantly urging him to bring Dillon back yet again.
We still know very little about what’s going to happen in the third season of The White Lotus. We don’t know exactly where it’ll take place. However, there are rumours that the third season will head to Asia.
There have also been reports that the third season is going to deal with themes of death, spirituality, and religion. Greg remains a likely candidate to return for the third season and face repercussions for his actions, something Tanya’s assistant Portia (Haley Lu Richardson) is also likely interested in.
Fellow season 2 characters Daphne (Meghann Fahy), Cameron (Theo James), Harper (Aubrey Plaza), and Ethan (Will Sharpe) could also return in The White Lotus season 3 as Daphne teased the group’s next vacation during her finale toast: “Next year, the Maldives!”
