The Wheel Of Time Season 2 is on the horizon. It’s actually one of the shows we are most looking forward to seeing return on Amazon Prime Video. Naturally, after the show’s very popular (if a little bit controversial) first season, fans are looking forward to the second season being released on the streaming platform. But, the question remains, when will that be? When will the second season be released, who could star in it and what could the story be about?
These are all questions that I am going to try and answer for you in this article. However, please bear in mind that not all of the answers are out there as of writing this article. However, the minute we hear anything about the second season of this new hit Amazon series, we will update this article accordingly. So, without any further ado, let’s talk about The Wheel Of Time Season 2 and when it could be released.

Before we get into all of that, let’s go over what The Wheel Of Time is all about. Here’s the show’s official plot synopsis, courtesy of Amazon:
The lives of five young villagers change forever when a strange and powerful woman arrives, claiming one of them is the child of an ancient prophecy with the power to tip the balance between Light and Dark forever. They must choose whether to trust this stranger – and each other – with the fate of the world before the Dark One breaks out of His prison, and the Last Battle begins.
Well, here is the good news: The Wheel Of Time Season 2 is happening over at Amazon Prime Video. It’s also been revealed that the show is getting a third season also. This was revealed by Deadline, and it was also something that we were told was happening quite a while before the more ‘mainstream’ outlets were informed about the show’s renewal.
They actually filmed the first two seasons of the show back to back, and I believe they are filming the third season as we speak. As for the second season, the series’ showrunner, Rafe Judkins, has revealed that it’ll be eight episodes long, like the first season. However, he also revealed that episodes would be longer in length than the ones in the first season, which I think is very good news!

As for when the second season could be released, we don’t have an exact release date for The Wheel Of Time Season 2. However, we do know that the second season wrapped production back in May of this year. These shows tend to take a couple of months in post-production before they end up being released on a streaming platform.
With this in mind, I would expect the third season to be released on Amazon Prime Video in December 2022. It could end up being pushed into 2023. However, it would be early 2023 as I’m sure that Amazon would want the series to be released sooner rather than later, as they don’t really have any big hitters coming out this winter. They have one series, Jack Ryan Season 3, that’s going to be released on December 21st. However, that’s about it, really.
What could happen in the second season?

Rafe has actually revealed quite a bit about what is going to happen in the second season. Just in case you didn’t know, this show is based on a series of books by Robert Jordan. However, fans of the books have been asking Judkins on Twitter how the second season would differ from the books. He revealed that we should expect to see a lot of differences between what happened in the books and what happens in his show. Here’s what he had to say on the matter when he was asked about it by a fan on Twitter:
Another big departure point for us from the books is making much more story for Moiraine and Lan. We aren’t sitting these two amazing actors on the bench for a season, so we take what’s in Book 2 for them and expand it in a huge way. That’s all I can say.

So, it would seem as though a lot’s going to happen in the second season that might end up shocking fans of the books as they might not expect what’s going to unfold. I actually think that’s the best way forward in these sorts of cases. Sometimes it’s better to deviate from the source material ever so slightly. However, I would warn the writers and Judkins not to deviate too much from the written word, as many fans will end up getting very upset. The first season was heavily criticised for not staying true to the books.
Moreover, if you want to know a little bit more about what’s going to happen in the show’s second season, Amazon has just released a sneak peek at The Wheel Of Time Season 2 on their YouTube channel. You can watch the video for yourselves below, and it gives you a nice little taste of what’s come.
This teaser actually reveals that they didn’t defeat the Dark One in the first season. All they ended up doing was setting his strongest lieutenant free! That does not sound good at all!

As for who’s starring in the series, The Wheel Of Time stars the likes of stars Rosamund Pike, Daniel Henney, Madeleine Madden, Zoe Robins, Josha Stradowski, Marcus Rutherford, and Barney Harris. Well, Harris was there for the first season. However, it was revealed that he was leaving the series and would be replaced by Dónal Finn for the upcoming seasons of the new hit series. So, they will all be returning for the second season, and it looks like they will also be back for Season 3.
Speaking of The Wheel Of Time Season 3, here’s what showrunner, Judkins had to say about it in a press release announcing that the third season has been renewed at Amazon Prime Video:
I’m so thrilled that we’ll be making a third season of The Wheel of Time. The Shadow Rising has always been my favourite book in the series, so being able to bring it to television and introduce new audiences to the stories that made me fall in love with these books in the first place is such an honour, and something I’ve been working toward since I first pitched the show years and years ago.
