The Walking Dead Season 11 is going to be the AMC show’s finale season, and we’ve been looking into when its release date will be.
That’s not a very easy question to answer, especially at the moment given we’re in the midst of a global pandemic.
COVID-19 has lead to huge delays in the entertainment world.
Movies aren’t coming out any more, or at least, not until next year.
TV shows have been affected too because studios have to figure out ways to ensure their sets are safe for their cast and crew.
This isn’t an easy thing to do, and as far as The Walking Dead Season 11’s release date is concerned, it means that we’re going to have to wait a while longer.
The Walking Dead’s showrunner Angela Kang confirmed at New York Comic Con on October 5th, 2019 that the show had been renewed for another season.
“The Walking Dead burst out of the gate ten years ago as a genre show that had all the character depth of a top-tier prestige drama,” said Sarah Barnett, president of AMC networks entertainment group and AMC studios, in a statement.
“And now 10 years later — led by the brilliant Angela Kang and fuelled by one of the most consistently talented casts in television — this phenomenon is flourishing creatively, with critics and audiences embracing its reset.
“We’re delighted to welcome back Lauren Cohan, she has meant so much to this show and its passionate, global fanbase, who are in for a fantastic ride over the coming months.”

So, this means that the final season is coming, but when?
Well, the most optimistic of The Walking Dead fans will say that the final season will be out at around mid-2021.
However, I think we should be looking more towards the end of the year, possibly even the beginning of 2022.
The show isn’t an easy one to shoot.
There are a lot of moving parts and it’s a pretty expensive show to make.
As it’s the final season, AMC will also want to ensure that it’s as good as it can be.
They won’t want to have a Game of Thrones Season 8 on their hands.
They’ll want fans to be satisfied with the ending of the show.
They’ll want them to talk about how amazing it was, not how terrible.
I have to say, that’s no mean feat.
Trying to end a show which has been on the air for as long as The Walking Dead isn’t going to be easy.
It’s even harder when fans have the comic books to compare the show’s ending to.

It’s also going to difficult to get this season made given the fact that they’re being told to work from home.
“We’re continuing to work on the future season remotely,” Kang told ComicBook.com.
“Writing, I think, is the easiest process to do remotely, and even that is a little… it’s tricky. We’re not quite able to work at the same exact pace as we would when we’re in the office.”
Hopefully, this won’t put too much of a delay on the final season airing.
However, it has to be said that they haven’t even started filming the final season.
AMC is still not sure when they’ll be able to get shooting underway for The Walking Dead Season 11.
This means that the release date will be pushed back even further.
Each new season of The Walking Dead has aired around Halloween time.
I actually really doubt that at this rate they’ll be able to hit Halloween 2021.
I’m thinking more like Christmas 2021 or even Valentine’s Day 2022.
That’s a really long time to wait for the final season of The Walking Dead.
What can we expect from The Walking Dead’s last season?

As for what might happen in The Walking Dead Season 11, well your guess is as good as mine.
The Walking Dead hasn’t been all that easy to predict ever since they deviated from the comics.
They have been inspired by certain plotlines in the comics.
However, the show is a very loose adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s books.
That is deliberate of course, as they don’t want people from knowing what’s going to happen next.
Part of the reason why we love the show so much is because it’s so unpredictable.
Characters we love just die at the drop of a hat with no warning.
A good example of this is the fact that Rick Grimes’ son, Carl, is alive in the comics.
Yet, he dies in the show and it was a heartbreaking death scene.
You never know what to expect from AMC’s The Walking Dead, and that’s part of its allure.
