Now this is a very interesting one, and a fan theory that I reckon will end up proving to be correct. There are rumours circling the Internet that The Umbrella Academy Season 2 will reveal that Number 5 (played by Aidan Gallagher) is actually Sir Reginald Hargreeves.
Wouldn’t that just be the best reveal, and it would make total sense. We already know that Number 5 can time jump. It would make sense for him to end up going back to the start to build The Umbrella Academy and it would also explain why and how Sir Reginald Hargreeves knows about Vanya Hargreeves’, a.k.a. Number Seven, powers.
This theory would explain why Reginald was the way he was and explain his treatment of Vanya.
If this theory turned out to be true, it would explain so much. But that’s enough from me. It’s time to go over this fan theory which was posted on Reddit by a very cleaver individual (not myself).
We already know that Number 5 went into the post-apocalyptic future in an attempt to stop it from happening.
Whilst in the future, he ended up having to work for The Commission for years.
He ended up managing to find a way back to his family to warn them and try to stop the apocalypse from taking place.
Number 5 and Sir Reginald Hargreeves will be revealed to be the same person in The Umbrella Academy Season 2

Here’s what the fan on Reddit wrote:
What if … Reginald Hargreeves and Number 5 are actually one and the same? Firstly, Number 5 is the only one of the children w/o a given name. Father Reggie also seems to have a fairly decent understanding of time travel, and his timeline does not appear to be continuous, as evidenced by the fuzzy math above. We already know that Number 5 is connected to the Commission.
It would make sense for Reggie & the Commission to be connected also, given that he seems to know more about the apocalypse than is explicitly stated in the show. However, like young 5, he wants to stop it.
The fan then goes into some complex explanation on how this could all work and after reading it, it becomes very clear that Number 5 and Reggie are one and the same.

So if Five were Reginald Hargreeves, why didn’t he warn the little one about the apocalypse, Vanya, the commission, everything? this theory seems to me a little inconcrete. I assume that Reginald is one of the commission, it seems more plausible. He was “the head” of the commission and decided to leave it for reasons that should be complicated.
Well, where season 2 is out and I’ve seen it, I can tell you that they are NOT the same person in every way!
It does not even make sense from the beginning, like how would he have adopted himself when he was first born on October 1, 1986 along with all the others ?!
And we have also been told that Five and Luther are twins, which means that Luther also comes from the future, but how would you explain that ?!

Thank god it was proven wrong! Five always does everything in his power to save his siblings – if it were to turn out he was Reggy, the ruthless father who abused / mistreated his children… I can’t see it. Five loves them so much, he could never turn so cold-hearted when it comes to them.
