It’s been revealed that The Crooked Man, which was going to be a The Conjuring spinoff movie, is no longer going to happen. This news comes to us straight from the franchise’s creator, James Wan.
He revealed this news in an Instagram post, and you know what, I’m pretty upset to hear that the movie is no longer going to happen. The Crooked Man was a character seen in The Conjuring movies and he was bloody terrifying.
However, it seems as though Warner Bros. Pictures is winding down the Conjuring cinematic universe. James Wan recently revealed that The Conjuring 4 is going to be the final movie in the Conjuring franchise, which is such a shame.
I’ve been loving this franchise, and I know that The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It wasn’t brilliant, but I’ve loved the other movies in the franchise. The Nun was pretty terrifying and the Annabelle movies are pretty darn good.
The Crooked Man isn’t happening, says James Wan

Here’s what James Wan had to say about the now-cancelled Conjuring spinoff movie:
Throwback to my tall friend, the Crooked Man played by the incredible @jbotet. Javier’s movement was almost supernatural, some people knocked the character for being CGI. I filmed him in slowmo and reverse playback — all old-school camera trickery. And no, unfortunately the spin-off movie with this character isn’t happening. Outside of my control. But maybe one day.
This all came after Wan had previously shared his plans for the spinoff ahead of The Conjuring 3. Back then, there were plans to make the movie, and Wan seemed really excited about it. Here’s what he had to say on the matter during an interview with Entertainment Weekly:
We think we have a really exciting story. What we want to do, with The Conjuring universe, is we want each of our little offshoots to have a very different flavor, right? So, for example, Annabelle is the classic sort-of haunted doll subgenre. And with The Crooked Man, I would love to push it more down somewhat of that dark fairytale, and more whimsical, subgenre. I love the idea that, within the Conjuring universe, each of our little movies all have their own flavor, so that way they don’t feel like they’re the same films.
Will we get to see more of these Conjuring spinoffs?

So, it does seem as though things are winding down as far as the Conjuring cinematic universe is concerned. We have The Nun 2, which is slated for release in the United States and in the United Kingdom on September 8th later this year.
Wan also revealed that they are working on The Conjuring 4, and I have an inkling that he might want to make that movie his next project after Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom is released in cinemas.
However, it does seem as though that will be it for the CCU (Conjuring Cinematic Universe). It was a franchise that, so far, brought in over $2 billion for Warner Bros. Pictures. However, it seems as though the last few movies’ rather lacklustre box office performances have been the nail in the franchise’s coffin.
