The Batman: Robert Pattinson Reacts To Batman Casting Rumours

Robert Pattinson was asked at the Cannes Film Festival about the rumours he was going to be playing Batman and his reaction was interesting.

The Internet is ablaze with articles about Robert Pattinson as Batman. I should know, I’ve written a few myself.

It was reported towards the end of last week that R-Pats – yes, the guy who played Edward in those Twilight movies – had been cast in Matt Reeves’ Batman movie.

The reaction was let’s say mixed. People on one side were claiming that he wasn’t big enough to play the role (he could just, I don’t know, go to the gym…?), and others were saying he’d be perfect for the role.

I personally agree with the latter statement. Robert Pattinson is one of the most interesting actors working in Hollywood today and he’s been tearing it up in the independent film scene.

The problem is that most people haven’t seen him in movies like Good Time or Cosmopolis, so it’s natural to be so against the casting when you’ve all seen him as Edward.

Although, I do find it funny that all this anger towards his casting means that there are a lot more DC Comics fans out there who have seen the Twilight movies than I thought. Or, it could just be a kneejerk reaction to hearing that the block who played Edward in the Twilight films will be playing Batman.

I can just hear them now. All the ‘comic book nerds’ shouting at their computer screens, “But… but… but he was in those Twilight films, and they were for GIRLS!” Maybe that’s a bit harsh. I am a comic book nerd, so I shouldn’t be too mean, but you catch my drift, or at least, I hope you do.

Anyway, Robert Pattinson is currently galavanting around Cannes – there’s some sort of film festival going on there which I hear is quite a big deal. Whilst at a Q&A for his upcoming film The Lighthouse (which is apparently brilliant by the way), he was asked to comment on the Batman rumours.

According to IndieWire, the actor was asked the question, he smiled and replied: “I am only answering questions about The Lighthouse.”

So, he’s basically confirmed that he is at least talks with Warner Bros. for the role, otherwise, he would have just denied the rumours are true.

He might as well have just said: “I can neither confirm nor deny the rumours.” That always means they’re true. We all know that, right?

I, for one, would love to see Pattinson as Batman. I think it would be inspired casting, and I’m going to say it, long live Battinson!

Anyway, The Batman, or whatever it’ll be called, is scheduled for release on June 25th, 2021, but that could change in time.

In the meantime, why not catch up on you Batman knowledge by reading some of the comics which you can purchase here! It’ll be worth your while, I promise.
