We all know that Robert Pattinson is going to be bringing Batman to the big screen in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, and I cannot wait to see him in the cape and cowl.
Robert Pattinson is a fantastic actor, and he’s been proving that ever since his time in the Twilight movies, having appeared and impressed in a whole slew of independent movies such as Good Time.
I’m really looking forward to seeing him in Robert Eggers’ The Lighthouse, which looks to be yet another brilliant performance from the British actor, who’ll be starring alongside Willem Dafoe.
Pattinson’s been speaking to The New York Times about his upcoming movie, The Lighthouse, and he also opened up about playing Batman in Reeves’ The Batman, and he said something rather unexpected about the DC Comics superhero.

“Batman’s not a hero, though. He’s a complicated character,” Pattinson told The New York Times.
“I don’t think I could ever play a real hero—there’s always got to be something a little bit wrong. I think it’s because one of my eyes is smaller than the other one.”
There’s something to what Pattinson is saying here. He’s not a ‘super’ hero, but he is a hero, in the sense that Batman goes out to Gotham to save people.
However, there’s also something to be said Batman’s nighttime prowling being more of a selfish act than a selfless one. It’s a means for him to get rid of his own demons whilst ridding Gotham of its actual ones (and in some cases, he has gone up against real demons).
Batman is a complex character, full of internal struggles and he’s plagued by the death of his parents. He has a tendency of carrying the weight of the world’s problems on his shoulders, which isn’t good for your mental health.

Pattinson’s obviously seen something genuinely interesting in this character, and hopefully, the film and his performance will reflect all those things but also see him do something rather heroic stuff.
I’m especially interested in the fact that this Batman movie is supposedly inspired by the comic book, The Long Halloween, which is my favourite ever comic and is definitely the best Batman story I’ve ever read (and I’ve read a lot of them).
It sees Batman having to do some real detective work, and we haven’t really seen him do that on the big screen yet. I say, bring on Batman, the detective.
The Batman is scheduled to hit UK cinemas on June 25th, 2021.
