There are reports suggesting that David Ayer’s Suicide Squad cut is set to be released on HBO Max after James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad.
This report comes from Warstu on YouTube who’s saying that his sources have informed him that the Ayer Cut will be released on HBO Max after Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is released. (August 6th, 2021)
Warstu even stated that this plan shouldn’t be changed by the recent AT&T and Discovery merger.
As he said, we probably won’t see the real effects of this merger until the end of 2022, which is true.
That said, it does seem as though Discovery’s higher-ups (mainly David Zaslav) are looking to restructure and maybe bringing in new people.
Anyway, it sounds as though there are plans to release David Ayer’s cut of Suicide Squad, but we’ll have to wait until after Gunn’s The Suicide Squad movie has been released.

This seems logical to me since Warner Bros. Pictures would not want to detract any attention away from their shiny new The Suicide Squad movie.
It also makes sense, to me at least, that they would then go ahead and release the Ayer Cut on HBO Max.
David Ayer’s been very vocal about his cut existing and we’ve been told that it’s finished and is ready to be released.
It’ll be interesting to see how this story develops moving forward.
