Is Terrifier 3 Happening? When Could It Be Released?

Terrifier 3 is something that I’ve heard many fans of the horror movie franchise asking about, and I’m one of those fans! I’ve been trying to find out whether the director/writer, Damien Leone, will get to make a third Terrifier movie. It’s actually something that I’ve been looking into now for quite some time.

However, before we get into the weeds of this article, I do have to warn you that not all of the answers are out there at the moment. This is to be expected, especially given it’s still very early days as the second Terrifier movie is still out in cinemas and hasn’t had a particularly wide release yet. It’s only been released in the United States and was shown at only one other horror film festival outside of the states. It was shown at FrightFest in London, but that’s it really. However, as soon as we get any new information about a potential third movie being released, we will update this article as fast as we can!

So, without any further ado, let’s talk about whether Damien Leone is going to make a third movie starring Art The Clown.

So, first thing’s first. Let’s address the Art The Clown shaped elephant in the room. Will there be a Terrifier 3? The truth is, we still don’t really know. Writer and director, Damien Leone hasn’t revealed whether a third movie is officially in the works or not. However, he has revealed that he does plan to make a third Terrifier movie. Also, the second movie starring Art The Clown has been doing really, really well in cinemas across the United States, which is a good indicator that financiers might be interested in helping pay for a third film.

Here’s what Leone had to say on the matter via Twitter:

Terrifier 2 continues to climb at the box office! Now projected to make 5.4 million at the end of this weekend! Indie horror is alive and well!

This is a pretty incredible result. Moreover, Leone did share with Slash Film that he can “almost guarantee” a third movie. Here’s what he had to say when he was asked about whether a third film was in the works:

Right now, I would like to just tell a solid story where it has a nice arc for my heroes, my villains, it’s complete. So a three is, I can almost guarantee a part three. After that? We’ll see if there’s anything left and if the fans still are still accepting of this character and this franchise.

So, this seems to indicate that Leone plans to make a third movie, and then that might be it for Art The Clown, and he can continue to tell other stories about other creepy characters. I think that Art deserves a trilogy, and there is definitely an appetite for it, given how well the second film has been doing at the box office.

After being resurrected by a sinister entity, Art the Clown returns to Miles County where he must hunt down and destroy a teenage girl and her younger brother on Halloween night. As the body count rises, the siblings fight to stay alive while uncovering the true nature of Art’s evil intent.

The issue with coming up with a release date for this potential third movie is that the second film still hasn’t been released in most parts of the world. I do have a sneaky suspicion that the third movie will be made, and I doubt there will be as big a gap between the release dates of the second and third movie as there was between the first and second. The first Terrifier film was released back in 2016, and we’ve only just got the second one in cinemas.

I have a feeling that the third movie will end up being released within the next three years at least. Damien Leone struggled to get the second film made, and then the COVID pandemic hit, which delayed the movie greatly as they had to film in very tricky circumstances. That won’t happen for the third film, and given how popular the second horror movie has proven to be, I think that Leone will find it a lot easier to finance the third film.

So, Terrifier 2’s cast includes the likes of David Howard Thornton (as Art the Clown), Lauren LaVera, Jenna Kanell, Catherine Corcoran, Griffin Santopietro, Felissa Rose, Samantha Scaffidi, Tamara Glynn, Kailey Hyman, Katie Maguire, Elliott Fullam, Casey Hartnett and Chris Jericho.

That, of course, isn’t the film’s whole cast. The movie actually has a pretty big cast, and I, for one, cannot wait to see them all in action in this movie.

As for who could return for the third movie, the only real certain name on that list would be David Howard Thornton as Art The Clown. Kate Maguire has been in all the other movies in the franchise, so maybe she might also be returning for a third movie. We’re just going to have to wait and see.

As of yet, there is no trailer for Terrifier 3 as no movie is officially in production. However, I feel Leone will get to work on the third movie as soon as possible given how popular the sequel has been. It’s been making so much money considering the fact that the film has had a pretty small release and didn’t cost all that much to make.

The minute a trailer for the third movie is released, I’ll put it in this article and update it accordingly.
