It was revealed earlier today that Nintendo is going to host a Nintendo Direct tomorrow, and many fans are hopeful they might end up announcing the Switch 2. However, we’re not so sure that Nintendo is ready to reveal its next console just yet.
Interestingly enough, it has been revealed that there were plans to announce a “pro” version of the hit Nintendo console before they unveiled the Nintendo Switch OLED. Apparently there was something of a civil war inside the company.
There were people at the very top who wanted to start work on the new console, yet others felt that they would do better to keep the Switch’s incredible run going and just release an interaction of what’s fast becoming the most successful games console of all time.
Well, they got their way and the Switch OLED was released. It’s a terrific console, by the way. I have one, and I love it!

This all comes after Nintendo Of America revealed that they would be hosting a Nintendo Direct tomorrow. They are claiming that it’s to unveil their line-up of games for 2023. However, a lot of fans think that they are going to end up announcing the Switch 2 or Switch Pro during this direct.
Here’s what Nintendo Of America wrote in their tweet:
Tune in at 2 p.m. PST tomorrow, Feb. 8, for a #NintendoDirect livestream featuring roughly 40 minutes of information mostly focused on #NintendoSwitch games launching in the first half of 2023.

This then got fans on Twitter talking, and speculating that the famous Japanese video game company is gearing up for a very big new console announcement. One fan wrote: “I’m so happy that we’re finally going to see the Switch 2!”
Another added: “My uncle works for Nintendo, and he says they’re finally releasing the Switch 2 tomorrow with pack-in title Mario Odyssey 2 and Donkey Kong Country: Return of the Kremlings value pack. You know it’s true because I would never lie.”
A third Nintendo fan wrote: “give switch 2, please.”

This all comes after there were reports that Nintendo was working on a sequel console to the Switch. It’s being reported that 2023 will be the final major year for the Nintendo Switch in its current iteration.
There have been reports suggesting that The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom will be one of the console’s final exclusive games. There have even been people speculating that Nintendo might end up releasing the game on both the Switch and the new console simultaneously.
They did this with The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild. They released the game the Wii U and the Switch at the same time.
Anyway, according to Famitsu reporter Zenji Nishikawa (via Benzinga), Nintendo could be in the process of beginning to move toward the production of a new console in 2023. With this in mind, Nishikawa theorized that Nintendo could look to release its next console at some point within the coming 12 months.
This is all just speculation on Nishikawa’s behalf. However, it does make sense and one of his sources suggested that Nintendo is looking to partner with an “American semiconductor manufacturer” soon to begin exploring new hardware.
This is all very exciting and I hope that we get a new Nintendo console sooner rather than later. I love my Switch OLED, but the internals are starting to feel a bit dated, and the Steamdeck is starting to offer some real competition for the console.
