James Gunn, the new co-CEO of DC Studios, has revealed that Superman is a top priority for the future of the DC Universe, which is very good to hear. However, what I’d like to know – and I think many of you would too – is whether he’s going to bring back Henry Cavill or not.
There’s been a lot of talk on the Internet about DC Studios’ plan for Superman. We had previously heard that Henry Cavill was going to be back as Supes and playing the character in his standalone movie. There had been reports that a Man Of Steel 2 was in development and that Warner Bros. Pictures was accepting pitches from directors and scriptwriters.
Superman is a top priority at DC Studios, according to James Gunn

So, what happened? Well, a fan took to Twitter to try and get answers out of Gunn in relation to Superman’s future over at DC Studios. The fans asked Gunn: “Hey James, please tell us if we are gonna see a Superman?”. And the new head of DC Studios answered (via Variety), saying: “We’ve been starved of the greatest comic book character on the big screen for ages!”
He continued: “Yes of course, Superman is a huge priority, if not the biggest priority.” Moreover, when asked by another fan to respond to the claim that “James Gunn does not like Henry Cavill,” Gunn answered, “Sure: false.”
This all comes after there have been reports that Man Of Steel 2 had been scrapped by DC Studios. There had been reports that the likes of Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders, had sent over a treatment to Warner Bros, which they subsequently rejected and gave the filmmaker/screenwriter notes on how he could improve his script.
Could Henry Cavill get to return as the Man Of Steel? Is he part of James Gunn’s plans?

We also heard reports that Andy Muschietti was, and still is, very interested in directing the Man Of Steel sequel for Warner Bros. Pictures. Will it happen? I really don’t know. However, it seems as though Gunn is keen on bringing the Man Of Steel back to the big screen. The fact that he has publically stated that he’s a fan of Cavill in the role leads me to believe that he might be looking at bringing the actor back in a big way. We’re going to have to wait and see what Gunn and Peter Safran’s (the co-CEO of DC Studios) plans are for the future of the DCU.
Moreover, Henry Cavill has already publically stated that he’s going to be coming back as Superman. This was after his cameo in Black Adam’s post-credits scene. Cavill then revealed in an interview: “The character means so much to me. It’s been five years now. I never gave up hope.”
He continued: “It’s amazing to be here now talking about it again. There is such a bright future ahead for the character. I’m so excited to tell a story with an enormously joyful Superman.” This is all I want to see. I want to see Cavill really get to sink his teeth into the role. Moreover, out of all the actors who were cast as the DC superheroes in the DCEU, I believe that Henry Cavill was the best. He is perfect in the role, and it would be such a shame if we never get to see him play the version of the character he’s always wanted to give us.
