People have been pontification over who Matt Smith could be playing in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. There’s even some speculation on whether he’s in the movie at all.
The Matt Smith Star Wars story is a strange and perplexing one. He was included in the film’s cast on Star Wars’ website, and then the former Doctor Who actor came out and firmly stated that he was not in the movie.
His listing in the movie has since been taken down, but it’s a really bizarre slip up if they did indeed put in his name by mistake.
I know that ‘Matt Smith’ is a rather generic name, yet he’s a pretty well-known actor these days, especially after starring as The Doctor in Doctor Who and Prince Philip in Netflix’s The Crown.

Personally, I think he’s in the movie and they’re desperately trying to keep his role under wraps.
There have been rumours that he could be playing a character closely linked to Palpatine. Some people have theorised that Smith will be playing Palpatine’s aide, or a character controlled by the Sith Lord.
I hope that this isn’t the case, because that would be a tiny bit dumb in my eyes and a waste of Smith’s considerable acting talents.
Yet, a new image of an unknown character from Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker has emerged, and some people believe it could be Matt Smith behind a lot of makeup.
The Twitter account, Star Wars Direct, posted the picture of this new character who’s supposedly from Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker and claimed that it’s Matt Smith underneath all that makeup.

They wrote: “This new #TheRiseOfSkywalker promotional picture shows a ‘new face’ that appears to be actor Matt Smith’s character!”
Now, it’s hard to tell whether it really is Matt Smith in this picture or not because he’s got so much makeup on and he’s behind some sort of strange mask.
I would even question why they would have wanted to keep his involvement so secret if he is playing this character in the movie.
Is this character going to be important in the movie? There’s no way of telling. However, if Star Wars Direct is correct, then it will be interesting to see how this strange creature factors into the grander scheme of things.
Could this Star Wars movie be the rise of the Smith… or the Rise of the Sith…?

Of course, we’re really going to have to wait until the movie comes out to know whether Smith is really in the movie or not.
Or, someone involved in the movie, an actor perhaps, could slip up and accidentally reveal that Smith was involved.
I would really love to see him in Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker because I really admire Smith as an actor and I think he’d be an excellent addition to the Star Wars saga.
