Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is coming out very very soon – it’s literally days away from release – and people have been theorising over what’s going to happen in the movie.
This has lead to some Star Wars fans positing that J.J. Abrams’ final movie in this new Star Wars trilogy might feature both Ezra Bridger and Grand Admiral Thrawn.
These two characters are incredibly popular amongst die-hard Star Wars fans. They are both involved in the recent Dave Filoni animated series, Star Wars Rebels.
Bridger was the show’s main character, and Thrawn was Star Wars Rebels’ main villain towards the end.
Thrawn, however, was made popular by Timothy Zahn’s Thrawn trilogy which was part of the Star Wars Extended Universe.

These books were no longer canon after Disney purchased Lucasfilm, yet they then revealed that Zahn would be writing a new Thrawn book trilogy, which was great news.
Star Wars Rebels ended with Thrawn and Bridger being taken into hyperspace together and we don’t know where they went.
This is where a recent fan theory which was posted on the Small Screen Facebook group comes into play because there are some people who believe that Erza and Thrawn will show up in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Here’s how the Star Wars fan’s, Enrique Isaacs, went (and honestly, I think this is a pretty wild yet also very cool theory, and I’d love it if it happened in the movie):
What if… Now just listen… What if…
Thrawn and Ezra landed in the Outer Rim, where they had to work together to escape. Weakened, Ezra lost his connection with the force. Thrawn carries him into a nearby cave where they met a Sith Trooper, who takes them to Palpatine. He then uses both of their bodies to create a new body for him. Having Thrawn’s body with Ezra’s force connection would be epic to see.
This is a seriously interesting theory because it would explain how Palpatine was able to come back after having been killed in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.
Could Thrawn and Bridger be the key to Palpatine’s return in The Rise of Skywalker?

Thrawn and Ezra’s involvement in the movie would also be a really nice nod to the fans who’ve invested so much time into reading the books and watching the series.
There’s also the fact that the Thrawn and Bridger characters are really good Star Wars characters in their own right.
That’s the only problem I have with this theory, it kind of uses both characters as puppets for Palpatine.
That said, it would explain how Palpatine was able to come back to life after having been thoroughly beaten by Luke and Darth Vader in Return of the Jedi.
There’s also been rumours that Lucasfilm is thinking of developing a Thrawn series for Disney Plus, which would mean that they might not want to use him in The Rise of Skywalker.

Personally, I’d love to see a Star Wars series completely and utterly devoted to Thrawn. He’s a really fascinating character, and I’ve really been enjoying the Thrawn books.
I think he’s someone they should expand upon more in live-action, and even though it might be rather expensive to bring Thrawn to the big or small screen due to his blue skin and red eyes, I think it’s something that Lucasfilm should look into doing.
They’re already developing an Obi-Wan Kenobi series for Disney Plus. I think a Thrawn series would be a very good follow-up to the likes of The Mandalorian and Kenobi.
