Sony unveiled fresh details about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 during its PlayStation Showcase this Wednesday, stoking anticipation among fans worldwide. The sequel, set to launch this autumn, shows a notably darker tone than its predecessor and features an array of new gameplay elements (via The Verge).
The central antagonist for this much-awaited sequel will be Kraven the Hunter, a notorious Marvel villain known for his obsession with hunting Spider-Man. The presentation offered a thrilling glimpse of the game, with extended gameplay footage showcasing Peter Parker making use of fresh abilities granted by a symbiote suit. Another exciting revelation from the showcase was the playable character, Miles Morales, further expanding the game’s narrative horizons.
First announced in September 2021, Spider-Man 2 will see the return of both Peter Parker and Miles Morales. The game also promises the appearance of Venom, one of Spider-Man’s most notorious adversaries. Initially, the title will be exclusive to the PS5. However, considering Sony’s recent trend of porting games to PC, a future PC release of Spider-Man 2 would not be surprising.

Spider-Man 2 follows the successful 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man, which received a remastered version for the PS5 launch, and its spinoff Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, also released on the PS5. The Spider-Man series has been a resounding success for PlayStation, with more than 33 million copies sold as of June. Given this track record, Spider-Man 2 has the potential to be one of the most significant game releases of the year.
In other news, Insomniac Games, the developer behind the Spider-Man series, is also working on a game featuring Wolverine, another beloved character from the Marvel universe. This announcement underscores the developer’s commitment to expanding its portfolio of Marvel superhero games and providing fans with more opportunities to engage with their favourite characters.

Looking at social media, the fact that the game was taking place in Queen really got fans buzzing.
“Why am I so hyped that you can go to Queens?” one fan said. Another replied that it was “because it was the natural next step.”
“They did a great job with New York, now the priority is extending it outwards to areas like Queens and giving the existing map more interior locations,” they continued. “Miles Morales (the game) did a great job giving Harlem its own community vibe, so hopefully every other district and Queens get that same unique feeling here.”
Another great reply came from someone from Queens. Here’s what they had to say on the matter:
“Insomniac better do the boroughs justice. Every BK and Queens dude has been waiting for this. NYC is more than just Manhattan! Bronx dudes, maybe next time. Staten Island folks, lmao you didn’t even make it into GTA IV.”
