2017’s is over and 2018 is here, but we should spend some time to look back on the movies that came out last year and decide which were the 20 best films of 2017. Here they are.
2017 has finally come to an end. For a while there I thought it never would, but 2018 arrived just in time. That said, there were some very good movies that came out in 2017. There was a sorts of great stuff that came out last year ranging from comic book movies, big war epics, smaller independent movies and even some fantastic horror films.
Compiling these best of the year lists is never easy since people’s opinions vary (the recent reaction to Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi for example), so we’ve decided to simply say that there were our favourite movies of the year, not necessarily the best. It’s a pretty good compromise in our opinion and will hopefully promote friendly debate instead of online trolling. And just for clarification, we are going by UK release dates and all our films came out between January and December 2017. We haven’t included any films that were premiered at film festivals and have yet to come out in UK cinema or on streaming services.
2017 was also a fantastic year for some debut directors and showed us that cinema really does has a voice and a place in society today. The fact that three of the top grossing films of 2017 featured female leads (Wonder Woman, Beauty And The Best and Star Wars: The Last Jedi) is proof that the industry is starting to head in the right direction and that moviegoers are looking for more inclusive movies.
But that’s enough chat. Here are our 20 favourite movies of 2017.

Anyway, we bid adieu to 2017 and bonjours to 2018. Hopefully, this new year will bring lots of happiness, joy and more good movies, TV shows, comic books and video games. Happy new year to you all!
