The Sun Summoner, Alina Starkov (Jessie Mei Li), is on the run from General Kirigan and The Crows. While Nina (Danielle Galligan) and Matthias (Calahan Skogman) find themselves lost at sea and with only each other to help one another survive the coldness of the sea and the Fjerdan wilderness.
WHAT IS HAPPENING BETWEEN NINA AND MATTHIAS?

We get to spend some quality time with Nina and Matthias in this episode. We watch as these two strangers start off as enemies and now, we are watching the beginnings of a wonderful friendship and possibly more. Nina and Matthias provide the real comedic relief for this episode and I loved every second watching these two characters together. Danielle Galligan is fantastic as Nina; she has perfect comedic timing and bounces really well-off Calahan Skogman. The banter between the pair is perfect and shows the real chemistry Galligan and Skogman have with one another.
Matthias discovers that his whole life he has been lied to about what Grisha are really like. The more time this pair spend with one another the more they learn about each other and how their first perceptions of each other are completely wrong. By the end of the episode these two agree to start over but feelings are defiantly beginning to grow.
Nina is coming to be one of my favourite characters to watch alongside Jesper as she is quick-witted and is bold. I’m looking forward to seeing the relationship between Nina and Matthias grow especially as they head further into Fjerdan. If anyone finds out Nina is Grisha then Matthias will have a difficult decision to make because Druskelle and Grisha don’t mix.
IS THE CROWS LUCK RUNNING OUT?

While this is happening back in Ravka, everyone wants Alina however is the Crows luck starting to run out? Kaz (Freddy Carter), Inej (Amita Suman) and Jesper (Kit Young) only just managed to escape the Little Palace with their lives and now Kirigan (Ben Barnes) and his Grisha soldiers are after them. The Crows have been in many dangerous situations but this one is their most life-threatening yet, however they always have another trick up their sleeve. However, we see that the Crows always find a way to escape and they’re the most exciting scenes to watch. They are always so cool, calm and collected but now they are facing tougher issues especially how will they get back home with no conductor, no Alina and no money. I always look forward to watching Carter, Suman and Young in every episode. Their performances are faultless and sometimes steal the spotlight from the main action with Alina.
KIRIGAN IS OBSESSED WITH FINDING ALINA BUT HOW DOES HE REALLY FEEL ABOUT HER?
Read more: Shadow And Bone Season 1 Episode 3 Spoiler Review
Kirigan is desperate and all he can think about his getting his hands back on Alina. We discovered in the previous episode that Kirigan lied and manipulated Alina so he could use her for his own mission. Yet he originally believed she was kidnapped and is concerned over her welfare. When Kaz reveals that she ran away his whole physically changes towards her. He goes from concern and caring over Alina as if he had genuine feelings for her to fury over her actions and choices. His fury at the thought that Alina may get to the Stag before he does but what if Kirigan wanted the Stag for Alina to make her stronger but for his own purposes not for the mission she thought she was training for.
Has Kirigan developed actual feelings for Alina despite using and lying to her. Fans are split over whether these two characters should end up together. However, at the moment we can agree that using someone and lying to them for your own gain isn’t the act of love. The only way these two characters could work if either Alina turned to the dark side or if Kirigan turned good. I could see Alina going bad but I think she would always end up on the right path in the end. Also, as the sun summoner, that is light which you associate with goodness, and all Alina wants to do is destroy the fold, which is good, surely.
ALINA AND ARE MAL FINALLY REUNITED

With Alina running as far as she can to get away, she ends up in East Ravka however Mal (Archie Renaux) shows up just in time to save her. We should have assumed that it wouldn’t take too much time for Mal to find Alina, he is the best tracker in Ravka as he found the Stag so easily. It was great to see these two characters who have been pining for one another finally reunite but they had a lot to speak about, considering they hadn’t seen each other for months.
Once Alina and Mal reunite, it doesn’t take them long to clear the air over the unreceived letters and Alina’s discovered powers. The awkwardness between both characters doesn’t last long and once that is gone Alina and Mal share lots of sweet and caring moments. This is now far more than just friendship between this pair and its quite nice to see as these romantic moments between these characters. It is strange how quickly Alina lets Mal back into her heart considering only a couple days previously she was having feelings for Kirigan and even got rid of the scar on her hand that reminded her of Mal.
‘The Heart Is an Arrow’ is us watching two romances start to blossom before our eyes. The unlikely pairing of Nina and Matthias and the friendship to romance of Alina and Mal. We have seen a lot of action in this season so far and what episode 6 does is add some more romance into this world. Nina and Matthias also provided us some comedic relief as well as David with his very limited screen time. The Kirigan and Kaz showdown was a personal highlight of this episode but it shows what a great idea it was to combine these two-book series together. All these stories work so well together and it’s great to see how well they are all working side by side.
