Scream 5’s official title has been revealed, and I’m really confused by it because it’s being called Scream. Yep, just Scream. And there’s already been a movie called Scream. That film came out in 1996 and was directed by the legend that is Wes Craven.
However, it was revealed today via Twitter that they’re calling this next movie Scream. I kind of understand why they’re doing this, but it’s also going to be really confusing for the franchise as a whole.
That said, I’m still really looking forward to seeing this fifth Scream movie, even if I do think that the official title is really confusing. It seems as though they might be trying to ‘reboot’ the franchise by going back to the beginning.
However, the fact that the likes of Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette return to the franchise seems to indicate that this will be a continuation of the other films.

Here’s what the film’s producer, Kevin Williamson revealed via his Twitter account:

I’m excited for you to return to Woodsboro and get really scared again. I believe Wes would’ve been so proud of the film that Matt and Tyler are making. I’m thrilled to be reunited with Neve, Courteney, David and Marley, and to be working alongside a new filmmaking team.
And incredible cast of newcomers that have come together to continue Wes’s legacy with the upcoming relaunch of the franchise that I hold so dear to my heart. See you in theatres January 2022.
Scream is going to be coming to cinemas on January 14th, 2022.
