Scarlet Witch Will Change Accents In Doctor Strange 2

It’s been revealed that Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch will be changing accents again in the upcoming Doctor Strange 2 movie.

Olsen revealed this during a recent interview with Rolling Stone in which she explained their thought process behind Wanda’s changing accents.

When Olsen first played the character in Avengers: Age Of Ultron, she had a very strong Sokovian accent, which was basically just a sort of Eastern European accent.

However, the accent softened in subsequent movies, which apparently was a decision taken by the Russo brothers.

Then, in WandaVision, Wanda just had Olsen’s natural accent, and the reason behind that was that she was supposedly in an American TV sitcom.

So, what’s going to happen in Doctor Strange 2 – or Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness?

Well, it sounds like she’s going to revert back to her Sokovian accent in the movie.

I know, it’s all rather hard to keep track of.

Here’s what Elizabeth Olsen told Rolling Stone about all the accent changes Wanda’s gone through:

So that started with Civil War. The Russos [directors Anthony and Joseph Russo] said, ‘Can she just have a softer accent, because she’s been in America, and has to have been speaking English more.’ So I was like, sure.

Olsen then went on to detail what Wanda’s accent is going to be like in Doctor Strange 2:

I do have to say that in [Wanda’s next appearance, in 2022’s] Dr. Strange [in the Multiverse of Madness], after the experience she has in WandaVision, she goes back to an accent that’s more true to her. Now that I feel a little bit more ownership of the character, I feel like she does retreat back to having this more honest expression.
