Rogue Squadron has been removed from Disney’s release schedule, which has us wondering what on Earth is going on with that movie! This news was revealed by Disney themselves (via Reuters) as they revealed their updated 2023 release schedule. The Patty Jenkins movie was originally intended to be released next year. However, even since Wonder Woman 1984 was released, there’s been no new news on her Star Wars film.
Have Disney and Lucasfilm decided to cancel the movie after Wonder Woman 1984’s poor reception? Or, have there been complications with the film’s script and Patty Jenkins’ schedule? Honestly, I’m not sure what’s going on. However, we have reached out to our sources about the current state of this Star Wars movie, because it all sounds rather odd to me.

Disney has given absolutely no indication of what’s going on with the movie, which makes me think that something’s going on with the film behind the scenes. The movie was supposed to be released in 2022 (so, this year). It was first revealed by Lucasfilm President, Kathleen Kennedy during Disney’s Investor’s Day presentation back in 2020. Since then, we’ve heard literally nothing about the movie. The movie had already been previously delayed from 2022 to December 2023 due to scheduling conflicts with Jenkins.
We did reach out to Disney for comment on why the Jenkins film was pulled from its upcoming slate. However, Disney has released several Star Wars TV shows in the past few years on the Disney Plus streaming service. We’ve seen the likes of The Mandalorian Season 2, The Book Of Boba Fett and the Obi-Wan Kenobi show all get released since that Disney Investor’s Day presentation. The next Star Wars series to be released is Andor, which is going to be released on Wednesday. We’ve heard nothing but good things about this series, and we’re excited to see it.

It’s really a shame to hear that this movie has been pulled from Disney’s upcoming released for 2023. However, this does not necessarily mean the movie has been cancelled outright. That said, it really doesn’t look good for Jenkins’ movie. I was so looking forward to seeing the film. I loved the way they announced it, and I really felt as though Jenkins had a lot of passion for the project.
However, it does seem as though her career’s taken a bit of a nosedive ever since Wonder Woman 1984 was released. The film turned out to be pretty terrible. It was one of big biggest disappointments of that year. I really thought the film was waa going to be good, and it just wasn’t. However, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the way that movie turned out isn’t having an adverse effect on Jenkins’ career because I genuinely want to watch her Star Wars film.
That said, it does seem as though all upcoming Star Wars movies are in a pretty perilous state. We haven’t heard anything really about Taika Waititi, Kevin Feige, or Rian Johnson’s Star Wars movies for quite some time.
