It’s been revealed to us here at Small Screen by sources reportedly close to Lucasfilm that Robert Rodriguez is going to be directing at least one of the episodes of The Book Of Boba Fett series, which is coming to Disney Plus later this year. This is pretty exciting for us because we’re huge Robert Rodriguez fans and loved his episodes in The Mandalorian Season 2.
Interestingly enough, Rodriguez revealed he was a last-minute addition to the directorial team on The Mandalorian Season 2. He wasn’t initially supposed to direct the episode – which was called The Tragedy and was brilliant. Jon Favreau asked him to step in at the last minute after the original person they hired for the episode had to pull out.
Well, Jon, Robert and Dave Filoni seemingly enjoyed working together on The Mandalorian so much that they then went and started working a miniseries spinoff together. This is, of course, The Book Of Boba Fett, which is currently filming as we speak.

Rodriguez is an executive producer on the show, and we’ve since learned that he’ll also be helming at least one of the episodes. We had previously been told that the show will be four episodes long, and it looks like Rodriguez has been given the opportunity to direct one of them.
Here’s what our source had to say about Rodriguez directing at least one episode of The Book Of Boba Fett:
Robert Rodriguez isn’t just an executive producer on the show, he’s also directing one of the episodes of The Book Of Boba Fett. All I can say is that he’s doing at least one of the episodes. Can’t confirm if he’s directing more at the moment.
I then asked sources I’ve worked with in the past who’s got close ties to Lucasfilm whether this is the case and a number of them confirmed that it is. So, it looks like Robert Rodriguez is keeping himself very busy these days.

It was just confirmed yesterday that he’s making a Spy Kids reboot. He’s also working on a sequel to We Can Be Heroes for Netflix, and now we’ve learned that he’s also making one episode of The Book Of Boba Fett (at least one).
This is great news for the director, who was in a strange place for a number of years. He didn’t make much after Machette Kills, which came out in 2013. He then made Alita: Battle Angel, which has a huge cult following. We’ve also been informed that a sequel over at Disney is in the works.
He’s now very busy and that’s what we like to see. A busy Robert Rodriguez is a good Robert Rodriguez – if that makes any sense to you…
