Ridley Scott Is Reportedly Planning A Third Alien Prequel Film

It’s been reported that Ridley Scott is planning a third Alien prequel film after Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, and the script is currently being written.

Ridley Scott has made some of the greatest films Hollywood has ever seen. He changed sci-fi horror forever with his incredible 1979 film, Alien. He changed regular sci-fi with Blade Runner, and historical dramas with Gladiator.

Any director would kill (well, hopefully not) to have those three films in their back catalogue. It’s kind of given him a pass ever since because Scott’s most recent films haven’t been fantastic.

Back in 2012, Scott thought it would be a good idea to make a prequel to Alien, which I actually thought was a good idea to begin with. How did the Xenomorph actually come to be? What was up with that strange disk jockey creature? How’s behind it all?

These were questions I actually thought I wanted answers to, but then Prometheus came out and I realised that I didn’t really need those questions to be answered.

One of the great things about the first Alien film was the sense of mystery and intrigue around the villainous monster. You don’t need to know about the android Michael being the creator of the Xenomorph. It really isn’t that interesting.

Ridley Scott directing Prometheus

That said. Scott has carried on with these films. He followed up Prometheus with Alien: Covenant in 2017, and it was marginally better than the first prequel film.

If anything, these prequel films are a lot like George Lucas’ Star Wars prequels. They aren’t really needed. However, it has to be said that Prometheus and Covenant are superior films to the Star Wars prequels. He’s still a very good visual director. The problem is that Scott has far too much say on these films’ scripts.

Scott is at his best when he’s restrained. When things aren’t easy. When people tell him no. He’s kind of been given free rein with these prequel movies, and the result is just a bit of a mess.

That said, according to Variety, they are working on the script to the third film in this prequel Alien series, which will hopefully be the last.

The Xenomorph in Alien: Covenant

They reported that director Scott is still planning a third Alien prequel to follow his last film, Covenant. The British director is planning to direct the next film.

Variety also reports the next Alien film is currently in the script phase. It’s going to be interesting to see when this film will see the light of day, if ever, especially after the Fox-Disney merger.

Disney isn’t well known for making more adult orientated movies, so it was uncertain what the state of these planned Aliens movies would be, but it looks like they’re carrying on regardless.

Meanwhile, why not have a read of our article on the 5 ways Game of Thrones season 8 dropped the ball, and the 5 movies you should watch if you still think Robert Pattinson won’t be a good Batman.

You can stream Alien: Covenant via Amazon Prime now, and if you click this link and purchase the film, we get a little kickback, which is much appreciated.
