The director/writer of Star Wars: The Last Jedi is really looking forward for people to watch Solo: A Star Wars Story.
There’s been a lot of speculation about the upcoming Han Solo spinoff movie. This shouldn’t really come as a shock considering the film’s difficult shoot. The fact that the film’s original directors, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, were booted from the project didn’t help things, and before that, there were reports that Disney had to hire an acting coach for the film’s lead, Alden Ehrenreich.
None of this fills you with hope. That said, it was also reported that Jon and Lawrence Kasdan’s screenplay was excellent and Ron Howard is no slouch when it comes to directing. He may have made films like The Da Vinci Code and all the other Robert Langdon films, yet he also gave us Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind, Rush, Frost/Nixon and Arrested Development.
Even after the film’s first trailer was released people were predicting that Solo was going to be a disaster for Disney. However, that might not be the case. On a personal note, I found the trailer to be promising. Yes, Ehrenreich’s hair is strange, and yes, the film’s colour palette seems a bit muted. However, the cast is incredible, and I think this film’s secret weapon will be Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi’s writer/director, Rian Johnson, revealed during an interview with ComicBook.com that he’s excited for people to watch the movie for themselves. “I knew it was coming, but I was still…” said Johnson while discussing Solo’s first trailer. “I was clicking, clicking, clicking, ‘yeah, yeah!’ And I think it looks so beautiful. I can’t wait for people to see more of the film – it’s so fun, it’s so funny. The cast is so charismatic, and I think they all just did a great job with it.”
Johnson was then asked about the current state of the upcoming Star Wars trilogy and whether he’ll be working on it straight away. “We’ll see. We’re still figuring out what the timing of the next trilogy is going to be. If I can sneak another one in before it, I definitely will,” Johnson said. “I’m chomping at the bit to get started on the new trilogy. I also have a bunch of ideas that I had from before this movie came around and so if I can get one of those out quickly, I’ll definitely try and do it.”
