Ready Player One’s writer, Ernest Cline, has revealed that the movie sequel, called Ready Player Two, is already in development. This will be an adaptation of his new book which was released very recently. Cline revealed this during an interview with Inverse.
Ready Player Two – the book – was released a few days ago, and it’s… well… it’s OK. It’s not quite as gripping as the first book, and I don’t think the story is quite as good. These mean that Ernest Cline’s rather poor writing is even more obvious in the sequel novel.

That said, it sounds like the Ready Player Two movie is still going to go ahead, and it also seems as though Steven Spielberg is going to direct the movie. Here’s what Ernest Cline had to say about the sequel movie:
It’s in the early stages right now, especially since Hollywood is in limbo right now. But I can tell from the experience of making the first movie that everybody had a lot of fun.
Steven Spielberg’s 2018 Ready Player One movie was a pretty big hit. It ended up being one of my favourite movies from that year, and I was excited to see the sequel. Hopefully, the movie sequel will be better than the book.
