Contrary to what some are assuming, Peacemaker Season 2 is not cancelled and will be moving forward. However, it is indeed delayed. So, if you are worried that Peacemaker wasn’t mentioned in James Gunn’s list of shows for DC Studios’ Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, don’t. Gunn is just busy with several other projects under his belt.
James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad spinoff Peacemaker did quite well for HBO Max. Peacemaker is Gunn’s first TV project. And because it performed better than other shows on the streaming service, a second season was already greenlit after the release of the season finale. Furthermore, because of it, another spinoff was announced not long after.
Gunn even confirmed back in August that he plans to start filming Peacemaker in 2023. However, this was way before he was given the task of leading the new DC Studios. At the time, he was set to get back to working on Peacemaker as soon as he was done with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.
No, in 2023.

When DC Studios announced Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, there were movies and shows lined up. The announcement even included the Peacemaker spinoff Waller. But many wondered why Peacemaker Season 2 wasn’t on the list. Many know that this is an essential project for Gunn. It’s no secret that DC Studios is working on resetting the universe. Is Peacemaker a casualty too? Well, kind of.
Peacemaker Is Not Cancelled

James Gunn’s work on DC Studios has shifted his work schedule by a lot, as most can understand. He won’t be able to keep his planned schedule because of his new job. Not a lot of people can say that they are hired to fix or create a new universe for a major studio.
A fan asked if Peacemaker Season 2 was cancelled. James Gunn was quick to answer:
Heck no, just postponed while I work on Legacy. Waller first. PM after.

Gunn has confirmed that writing Superman Legacy is already close to being done. He also said that he’s been working on writing the film for more than six months. Way before he was even hired to take over DC Studios. But we don’t know how much work he’ll do on Legacy since he isn’t even sure if he’s directing it.
With the Waller series next in line, it is going to take a while before he can start Peacemaker Season 2. Peter Safran has said regarding the new spinoff series:
This series is set between the events of Peacemaker Season 1 and Peacemaker Season 2.

James Gunn has said the same thing:
Viola Davis is coming back as her character, Amanda Waller. This is also going to have some of the ‘Peacemaker ‘team in it as regulars on the show. This basically follows up ‘Peacemaker’. We have two great creatives working on it: Christal Henry, who was a writer on Watchmen, and Jeremy Carver who created Doom Patrol. They have this incredibly marvelous story worked out that I think is really fantastic.
It’s good to know that Gunn has Christal Henry and Jeremy Carver to help him write for Waller. But since Gunn is used to writing on his own projects, I wonder how the new spinoff will turn out.
He has been very hands-on with Peacemaker; he did all the writing. So, I also wonder if Gunn plans to write the entire Peacemaker Season 2.
Because of the delay, none of us really know when the release of Peacemaker 2 will be. There are speculations that the show will return by 2024. That’s the best-case scenario. We have to remember that he’s overseeing the new DC Universe.
