It was a great moment when Bong Joon-ho’s incredible film, Parasite, was nominated for Best Picture at 2020’s Oscars, and it’s already made history.
Parasite is now the first South Korean movie to be nominated for a Best Picture Oscar, and Bong Joon-ho is also the first Korean filmmaker to be nominated for a Best Director award at the Oscars.
This film has already made history, but it could end up going one step further by actually coming away with the Oscar for Best Picture, which would be a wonderful sight to see.
Bong Joon-ho’s films have all been impressive over the years.
Before making Parasite, Joon-ho made Okja which was a very popular film on Netflix and personally I loved it.
Then before that, he made Snowpiercer, The Host, Memories of Murder and Barking Dogs Never Bite.
Even if Parasite doesn’t win, it’s already made history

Literally all his films have been critically acclaimed, but Parasite has earned him his first nomination at the Oscars, and that’s huge.
Parasite’s been nominated for four Oscars in total. Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Internation Feature Film.
However, the film is not the favourite to come away with the Best Picture nomination.
The entertainment section at Sports Betting Dime has Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is the favourite with odds of +124.
Tarantino’s movie is closely followed by Sam Mendes’ 1917 with odds of +300.
However, then we have Parasite in third position at +400, and that’s not a bad shout.
If I were a betting man (which I am not) I would put some money on Parasite coming away with the award and that would be a huge upset.

It would enter a very exclusive club if it did come away with the win. It would become the first ‘international feature films’ to win the Best Picture award.
That’s would be wonderful and a sight worth seeing, however, it’s looking like it might not happen for Parasite with Once Upon A Time In Hollywood and 1917 being pretty firm favourites to win.
Rounding up the betting we have Joker at +700, The Irishman at +1200, Jojo Rabbit with odds of +2800, Marriage Story at +3300 and coming in last place, we have Ford vs Ferrari (Le Mans 66 in the UK) with odds of +10000.
Personally, I would love to see Parasite win the award because it really is a remarkable movie, but it’s not about the movie industry and it’s not about a war, and those are the types of movies that tend to win Oscars.
