Outer Banks Season 4 has been confirmed by Netflix, which means that we’re at least going to get to see one more series of this hit series! That’s good news, but many fans of the show are already asking when the next season will be released on the streaming platform.
This is a question that I, as a huge fan of the series myself, have been asking, and I’ve been trying to get a response from people we’ve spoken to in the past who are either tied to the show, or in some cases, actually star in it.
We did an interview with Cullen Moss, which you can check out on our YouTube channel. And during that interview, we asked him about Season 3 and when that might be released. Back then, the third season hadn’t been released yet, and Netflix hadn’t revealed when the series would be landing on their platform.
Well, we’ve now seen the third season and got the news that a fourth season is in the works. During our interview with Cullen, who plays Deputy Shoupe in the show, we asked him if there were any plans to make a fourth season.

He wasn’t able to confirm nor deny whether a fourth season was going to happen or not, but he did express his desire for a fourth season to be made. A few days after the third season was made available to stream on Netflix, Netflix France revealed via its Facebook page that the fourth season is in the works and will be coming to Netflix in the not-so-distant future.
However, as far as we can tell, there is no solid release date for the fourth season, and we also don’t know whether this will be the show’s final season or not. given how well the series has been performing on Netflix, I have a feeling that they might get a fifth season, but that hasn’t been confirmed yet.
It all depends on when the fourth season goes into production, and we still don’t know when that’ll happen. However, series co-creators, executive producers and showrunners Jonas Pate, Josh Pate and Shannon Burke did make a joint statement to Variety about the fourth season being in development.
Here’s what they had to say on the matter:
Seeing Poguelandia come to life was nothing short of spectacular. The Pogues are enjoying an adventure of a lifetime and we now get to map out more twists and turns as the joyride continues into Season 4 of Outer Banks. Thank you to Netflix, our cast and the amazing fans who helped to make this
Who will return for Outer Banks Season 4?

As far as who will turn up in the fourth season, we’re pretty certain that the main cast will return for Outer Banks Season 4. This includes the likes of Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, Rudy Pankow, Carlacia Grant, Austin North and Drew Starkey.
Moreover, during an interview with PEOPLE, Daviss admitted he’s interested to see how the Pogues’ relationships with each other progress in a fourth season.
Here’s what he had to say on the matter:
There’s no way they’re not treasure hunting, so how does that play into all of this? How is his relationship with JJ and Kiara now? Is that different? Is his relationship with John B different? They’re all still friends, but it has been a year. So I’m interested to see what all those interpersonal dynamics are.
Who won’t be back for the fourth season?

There are some characters who definitely won’t be returning for Season 4. We’re talking about the shocking deaths of Ward Cameron and John Routledge in the season 3 finale, and it’s possible that Charles Esten and Charles Halford won’t return for Season 4.
During an interview with PEOPLE, Starkey spoke about how he thinks his character Rafe will react to his father Ward Cameron’s demise, especially after putting a hit out on him in season 3. Here’s what Drew had to say on the matter:
It’s interesting because he’s already made the conscious decision to go into these uncharted waters of independence this season. The first two seasons, you’ve seen him holding onto this dependency from his family and his father, and then this season, he allows himself to break free of that. It could go one of two ways: he could embrace it and move forward or he could react a little more aggressively.
Will there be a Season 5?

As for future seasons of the show beyond Season 4, we’re still not quite sure what’s going to happen on that front. Netflix hasn’t confirmed if Season 4 will be the show’s final season.
Showrunners Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke previously stated that they had plans for the series to run for four or five seasons, however, they recently told EW that they’re no longer adhering to that plan. Here’s what they had to say on the matter:
I don’t know if I could put a real number on it right now — how long it takes to get to that ending might expand, but we now know the shape of the end of the story. We’re going to take it as long as we can, for sure.
Josh also teased to Tudum that they already know how the series will end. Here’s what he had to say about that:
We’ve always known from the beginning what the last scene would be, if we would be lucky enough to get it that far.
Burke then added that there’s “a lot of dark, blank space” before reaching that final moment
Outer Banks’ plot synopsis
The show’s first season saw John B reeling from the disappearance of his father, who never returned after attempting to hunt down the shipwrecked Royal Merchant, which was carrying $400 million dollars in gold. So, John B and his mates pick up where his father left off, but they’re not the only ones searching for sunken treasure.
The island’s class warfare, particularly between the Cameron family and John B, complicates the Pogues’ hunt for the Royal Merchant’s gold in season 1, which continues as the stakes increase in Outer Banks Season 2. We’re eagerly awaiting what happens in the third season (yep, I still haven’t finished the show’s third season yet).
You can stream Outer Banks Season 3 on Netflix right now. It’s already been doing incredibly well on the streaming platform, so I’m sure that the majority of you reading this article have already finished the season. I’d like to know what you think might happen in the fourth one and whether you reckon it’ll be the show’s final season.
I think there’s still quite a bit of story to be told, and there’s obviously a lot of interest in the show, so maybe we could get a fifth season. However, something tells me that Netflix might want to end it with Season 4.
