So, the Nothing Phone 2 has officially been unveiled by the founder and CEO of the company, Carl Pei, during a recent YouTube premiere video. The presentation itself was slick and really impressive. You can pre-order the Nothing Phone 2 from Nothing’s online store right now, but, you’ll be paying a lot more for it than you might have done for the Nothing Phone 1… Let us explain why.
The Phone 2 looks like it’s going to be a real winner. It’s slick, incredible to look at, and it’s a bump up in every department over the Nothing Phone 1 – there’s no denying that. However, there is one caveat – the phone is going to cost you a lot more than the Nothing Phone 1. That said, there is a good reason for that.
The Nothing Phone 2’s price will start from $599

OK, first thing’s first, let’s address the elephant in the room. The price. The Nothing Phone 2 is a lot more expensive than their first phone. It’s about a 40% increase from the price of the first phone, which is a lot.
In the UK, the first phone released at £399, which was an incredibly good price. This made it one of the most popular and easily recommendable phones of 2022. In the UK now, if you want to buy the Nothing Phone 2, it’s going to cost you £579! That’s a big jump in price.
In the United States, it’s going to start at $599, which is still actually a very good price for the phone. This will also be the first Nothing Phone to be available to purchase in the US, which is very good news for US fans of the brand who’ve been patiently waiting for the moment when they could get one in their own country.
In Europe, the phone is actually even pricier! The phone will set you back €679. That’s for the model that comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. If you’d want to bump that up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage (which is what I’d go for), then you’d have to fork out a pretty sizeable €849, which is a lot.
That said, it’s still nowhere near the price of a new iPhone, which comes with a lot less RAM and a lot less storage. So, I would argue that the Nothing Phone 2 is still very good on price.
Is The Nothing Phone 2 a ‘mid-range’ phone?

However, the question now is, can you call the Phone 2 a ‘mid-range’ phone? At those prices, I think not. However, it does seem as though Nothing is really starting to step up its game and doesn’t really want to be competing with the mid-range phones anymore.
You can tell this by the fact that they’ve taken a much more ‘premium’ approach with the phone’s specs, its looks and how it feels in hand. They are now using much better screens in the phone 2, which has a refresh rate of 120Hz and can go all the way down to 1Hz, which is something that the Pro iPhones can do, and that was a pretty recent addition.
The cameras are also a lot better than the Phone 1. They have upgraded one of the camera sensors, and they’ve also updated the software, which is a lot like Google’s approach to their smartphone cameras. They are now relying on software as opposed to putting the biggest sensors in their phones with the most megapixels.
Is the bang for your buck still there?

The phone’s battery is also now a lot bigger than the previous Phone 1. The battery is now a pretty sizable 4700 mAh as opposed to the Phone 1’s 4500. That’s a big step up, and Carl Pei himself said that in his testing of the Phone 2, he’s seeing 40% increases in the phone’s battery performance over the Phone 1.
So, all of this is to say that yes, the Nothing Phone 2 might be more expensive than the Phone 1, but there is a reason why that’s the case. If you do decide to go for it, you’ll be getting a much better and much more premium phone. Now, I can’t tell you how much better it really is until I get my hands on the device myself. I am working on that, and hopefully, I’ll be able to give you guys my full review of the Nothing Phone 2 in the not-so-distant future!
