Noah Hawley’s new Alien series is something that I think we should all be talking about much more than we currently are. Yes, there are some people out there who are very interested in watching this new series, but I’m going to be honest: I thought there would be much more hype.
As I’ve stated here on Small Screen, Alien is my favourite franchise of all time. I know that there are many more bad movies in the franchise than good ones, but the good ones are just so good, and I think the universe that the likes of Ridley Scott and James Cameron created has so much potential.
There have been some pretty terrible Alien movies made in the past—look at the likes of Alien Vs. Predator, Alien Vs. Predator: Requiem, Alien 3, and Alien: Resurrection, which are all pretty bad in their own ways. However, even those movies have some good moments.
You’ve also got the middling movies in the franchise—Prometheus and Alien: Covenant. However, I would argue that those movies are worth revisiting because they have some brilliant set pieces, and Ridley Scott’s films are always worth a second look.
Why should you be looking forward to this new Alien series from Noah Hawley

Anyway, that’s enough rambling from me about how much I love the Alien film franchise (I also love the books and Alien: Isolation – the incredible survival horror video game released in 2014 that might be one the best things to come out of the franchise in years).
It’s time to start talking about Noah Hawley’s Alien series, which he’s currently working on. If you haven’t heard of Noah Hawley, then he’s someone whose work you should really take a close look at. He made shows such as Fargo and Legion. Fargo might just be one of the best shows made in the past decade, but that’s just in my opinion.

It’s really got everything, and it’s so impressive how Hawley was able to build upon the Cohen Brothers’ movie and actually improve upon it and build the world into something so vast and fascinating. He also made Legion, which stars Dan Stevens. Legion is considered by many, myself included, to be one of the best superhero shows ever made.
It might be the best thing to come out of the superhero genre ever. It’s mind-bending, complex, thrilling, bizarre, fascinating—everything you could possibly want from a superhero TV show. I really don’t think anything’s come close to that show when it comes to the genre. Marvel might want to take a closer look at what was done in Legion when they make their next movies and TV shows.
Noah Hawley is the reason why this new Alien series is so exciting

So, all of this is to say that I am a big fan of Hawley’s, and I think the fact that he’s making an Alien series is incredibly exciting. He’s also stated in the past that he’s a huge fan of the franchise (mainly the first two movies), and he wants to really focus on what was done in those two movies and forget about the stuff that came after them.
When it comes to Alien, I think that’s precisely what you should do. Alien is Ridley Scott and James Cameron’s movies. The rest is just fluffy nonsense. It was also revealed that Hawley’s show is going to take place roughly 30 years before the events in Scott’s first film.
This really intrigues me because it will focus on the emergence of the Weyland-Yutani Corporation and the race between corporations to create new android life. However, we know that there will be some form of Xenomorph in the film, which would explain why Ian Holm’s Ash in Scott’s movie knows so much about this creature.

So, as far as this new show’s concerned, Hawley has written the scripts and will be directing all of the episodes. The cast will include the likes of Sydney Chandler, Alex Lawther, Samuel Blenkin, Essie Davis, Adarsh Gourav, Kit Young, Timothy Olyphant, David Rysdahl, Babou Ceesay, Jonathan Ajayi, Erana James, Lily Newmark, Diêm Camille and Adrian Edmondson.
Hawley has also confirmed that the series will be more connected to the style and mythology of the original 1979 film rather than the prequel films: Prometheus, and Alien: Covenant.
This is everything I want to hear about this new show set in the Alien universe. It sounds like it will be a blast, and I think everybody should be keeping a close eye on all its developments and looking forward to when it’s finally released.
We still don’t have a release date for it. However, it’s been reported that the first season of this upcoming show will be released sometime in 2025. FX chairman John Landgraf confirmed this at the 2024 Television Critics Association winter press tour in February.
