No Multiple Batmen In The DCU Says Warner Bros Boss

It’s been revealed by Warner Bros Discovery’s CEO, David Zaslav, that there will not be multiple Batmen in the DC Universe moving forward, but what does this really mean? Well, it could mean a bunch of different things. It could mean that we’re no longer going to be getting Michael Keaton’s Batman in the upcoming DC Comics movies. However, there are some other possibilities. Let’s go over what Zaslav actually said and what he could have really meant.

Zaslav was talking to The Hollywood Reporter, and that was when he was asked about the multiple versions of the Batman we’re going to be getting in the DCU. Rather surprisingly, Zaslav revealed that there would not be four Batmen in the DCU moving forward. Here’s what he had to say on the matter:

I think over the next few years, you’re going to see a lot of growth and opportunity around DC, there’s not going to be four Batmans… and so part of our strategy is [to] drive the hell out of DC, which James and Peter are going to do. I think they’ve thrilled the fans. I think they’re going to thrill you over a period of time.

The interesting part of this quote, to me at least, is when Zaslav says, “four Batmen”. I can only count three Batmen that are going to be turning up in the current crop of DC movies. There’s Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight, Michael Keaton’s, and then there’s Ben Affleck’s. We already know that Affleck will return as Batman in The Flash and Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom.

We were supposed to see Michael Keaton’s Batman in The Flash movie also, and he was originally supposed to return as his version of the Caped Crusader in the Batgirl movie, but that film’s been cancelled. It was recently revealed that Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson are working on The Batman 2, so he will also be back. So, the question remains, who’s this fourth Batman Zaslav is talking about?

Keaton’s Batman, gone in a flash!

Maybe he just picked a random number, but it has made me wonder a little. As for the future of the Dark Knight, I feel that Keaton’s Batman isn’t going to be sticking around for too long. I think he’ll turn up in The Flash movie, and that’ll be it for him. I feel that as far as the DCU’s concerned, Ben Affleck’s Batman will be the main man.

We’ll then have Reeves’ Batman movies, which will be taking place on a different Earth from the other core DCU movies that James Gunn and Peter Safran are currently planning. We’ll have to wait and see what happens, but I think this will be the way forward for the Dark Knight.

We will still be getting multiple versions of the character, it’s just that Robert Pattinson’s Batman will not be turning up in the DCU movies. He’ll just be in his standalone movies. What do you make of my theory? Do let me know. I’d love to hear from you.
