That said, Disney is still planning on dominating cinemas around the holiday seasons for the foreseeable future.
Each year between 2022 and 2028, Disney will release a new Star Wars movie or Avatar follow-up.
James Cameron’s upcoming sequels to his 2009 Avatar movie will now premiere every other December starting in 2022.
So, here’s when the next Avatar movies will be released in cinemas:
Avatar 2 (Dec. 16, 2022), Avatar 3 (Dec. 20, 2024), Avatar 4 Dec. 18, 2026) and Avatar 5 (Dec. 22, 2028).
As for the upcoming Star Wars movies, Disney is planning on release three new films which will be released around Christmas time every other year.
These Star Wars films will start on Dec. 22, 2023, and the two follow-ups will hit cinemas Dec. 19, 2025, and Dec. 17, 2027.
