A new Star Wars film is coming, and it’s going to be helmed by Ms. Marvel’s director, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, and it’s being developed by Damon Lindelof. This news comes to us via Deadline. They are reporting that this film will be set directly after the events of Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker. It may also include some of the characters from the latest trilogy.
So, according to the media outlet, not only will this upcoming movie be developed by Damon Lindelof, but it’ll be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. Lindelof is going to be co-writing the project. It was then revealed by The Hollywood Reporter that he’s selected Justin Britt-Gibson as his writing partner for this film. It’s been revealed that this script is still being written. This means that production on the movie is still pretty far out.
However, Deadline’s sources did add that it was important to Disney, Lucasfilm and Lindelof that a director be brought on “so that person’s own vision for where they see this story headed gets included in the script.”

This project is being kept very much under wraps at the moment. It seems as though Disney’s CEO, Bob Chapek, has asked Lucasfilm’s President, Kathleen Kennedy, to stop announcing new Star Wars projects. One of the reasons why he might have asked her to do that is because they’ve been announcing a lot of stuff over the years that still hasn’t come to fruition. This is probably why they are keeping this new Star Wars film under wraps and haven’t officially announced anything yet.
However, it does seem as though Disney and Lucasfilm executives believe in this project and are being more pro-active with it. This is mainly due to the fact that they’ve already gone out and found the movie a director. It’s going to be really interesting to see what ends up happening with this project set in a galaxy far, far away.
The last Star Wars movie that was released in cinemas was Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker. The movie did pretty well at the box office, but it was slammed by audiences and critics alike. Since then, Lucasfilm has been focusing on the Disney Plus shows. We’ve seen the likes of The Mandalorian, The Boob Of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Andor shows all premiere on Disney Plus.

It definitely seems as though Lucasfilm is being more cautious with its upcoming films. We’ve heard reports of a Rian Johnson new trilogy, a Kevin Feige Star Wars film, and a Taikia Waititi flick. Kennedy also announced that Patty Jenkins would be directing Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, which I was really excited about. However, the movie has since been shelved (I think it’s actually been cancelled).
As for Obaid-Chinoy, the highly-sought after director continues to build on her strong ties with Disney after successfully directing several episodes of Ms. Marvel for Marvel Studios. She’s already well-known in Hollywood for directing her Oscar-winning documentary shorts Saving Face and A Girl in the River and The Price of Forgiveness. She’s also going to be directing Paramount’s adaptation of Brilliance which is being developed for Will Smith.
