It’s being reported that a new Men In Black movie is being developed over at Sony Pictures, and I actually think this is really good news. Let me explain why in a minute. First things first, let’s discuss where this news comes from. This news comes from an industry scooper called DanielRPK. This scooper is also known as Daniel Richtman, and a lot of his scoops – I would say about 80% of them – turn out to be pretty much spot on.
It’s going to be interesting to see whether this scoop is also on the money. However, it would make a lot of sense for Sony Pictures to try and give the Men In Black franchise another go. The last movie was released in 2019. It was called Men In Black: International, and it starred Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson. The two of them then went on to star in the Thor movies together. They were in Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love And Thunder.

The movie didn’t perform well at the box office and the reviews were pretty middling. Since then, nothing’s come out of the Men In Black franchise, which is a shame because there is an awful lot of potential there. I think that it might be good for Sony to go back to the drawing board as far as this franchise is concerned.

We all remember the incredible first movie that was released back in 1997. The film starred Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones. They were a great double act, and it worked really well. However, over the years, people have wanted to see a little bit more from this franchise. They struck gold with the first film, and the movies released since then in the franchise have all been a bit underwhelming.

I’m not sure that the answer would be to bring Will Smith or Tommy Lee Jones back. I think it would be best to just scrap everything that came before it and start from scratch. That’s just my opinion. I’m sure that there are much smarter people than me working in Hollywood who can work out how this franchise should continue.
I’ve always liked the idea of a Men In Black TV series that could be R-rated. It think that a little more violence and maybe even some scares could really help this franchise to become more relevant and more fun. However, given the previous movies in the franchise, I don’t think that Sony would really want to go down that route.
