Morena Baccarin has been pretty vocal on how she hated filming the sex scenes with Ryan Reynolds on Deadpool, recalling the two-day shoot. With the recent casting announcement that Deadpool 3 has just signed Baccarin on to reprise her role as Vanessa, people got reminded how much she didn’t exactly enjoy shooting the romp sort of montage.
On-screen, the 2016 Deadpool steamy scenes looked as if the two characters really couldn’t get enough of each other. Reynolds and Baccarin really sold those minutes and established how Wade would really end up deciding to take his chances of being subject to an experiment if it meant he’d get to live longer with the love of his life.
We all know what happened after that.
2018 Deadpool 2 also showed some raunchy scenes when Vanessa and Wade also lock lips. This already had Reynolds buried under layers of special F/X makeup to show the messed-up look of Wade Wilson. The very reason he tried to hide from Vanessa during the first movie.
Some time ago, people thought that this could have been a factor in why Baccarin took a long time to get on board with the third movie. Some even thought she might opt to pass, but many had faith that negotiations just had to take its course. Finally, two weeks ago, it was announced that she is going to be back as Vanessa for the third movie.

In an article from Lad Bible, previous interviews with the actress gave proof as to how professional she and Reynolds were to have accomplished the various ‘challenging’ scenes they had together as the lead couple of the franchise.
Talking about the 2016 movie steamy montage, the actress talked about the two days of shooting the scenes where they covered an entire year of holidays which include Valentine’s Day, International Women’s Day, Halloween and Christmas. Guesting at Conan O’Brien’s show in 2017, Bacarrin said:
It was really fun… minus the two days of sex scenes, it was wonderful, the whole experience. It took two days to shoot the sex scene, because I think it was us making sweet love for an entire calendar year. So it was all the holidays, you know. So we dressed differently for every one.
It must have been a challenge to keep the mood in between outfit and set changes. They did shoot on the same set, but it had to also carry a different festive vibe. The two-day shoot actually had a lot of footage that wasn’t used for the final cut of the movie, and the actress was pleased with the output. She said:
…I feel good about that – the part that was left out. I literally mean that was enough sex. Like nobody needs to see more than what was in the movie!
Later on, Baccarin talked about how difficult it was to keep up with suspending the reality that Reynolds was in full burnt-skin-make-up when they kissed. In her words, when she spoke to People:
I keep saying that kissing him in that mask is like kissing a giant latex condom. It basically just smells like rubber the entire time.
However, the experience was challenging and difficult not because of her co-actor. In fact, Baccarin shared that Reynolds made everything bearable and that he was completely professional and that they both got comfortable with each other. She stated:
There’s a lot of laughing. And that stuff is always uncomfortable. But, we made the best of it. By the end of the day you’re like ‘Okay, where do you want me, how do you-?’ You’re like spreading your legs and you’re like whatever, it’s just, you get so used to each other.

Cinema magic didn’t just mean the explosive action scenes and healing special effects for the Deadpool franchise. The actors did a lot of the work, making it all look natural. Let’s accept the fact that if the actors didn’t have the acting chops to ‘sell’ the scene, no amount of state-of-the-art movie effects could fill that gap.
If it did, it takes a whole lot of time and talent for the people behind the camera and post-production to make things happen. But Baccarin’s Vanessa and Reynold’s Wade didn’t need the extra push of post-production to make the chemistry happen. Even now, no one I know could imagine a different actress to portray Vanessa in Deadpool. That role is entirely Morena Baccarin’s.
